  • Wired on dating sims

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Found this on Megatokyo... and it's surprisingly accurate. Only two dating sims (well, AVGs might be more appropriate) have sold more than 100,000 in the history of computer gamign, after all.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>The sub-genre Visual Novels is sort of like the *RPG* section of hentai games, with supposed emphasis on the plot section (hence Novel). But it's a catch-22 situation. If the plot isn't good you're left wondering why they did they even bother making you read through subpar writing. If the plot is actually good, it makes you wonder how can anyone logically believe your whatever unlikely hero just happens to have sex with 5 beautiful women in parallel universes that are all somehow relevant to an overriding storyline.</div>

<div style='font: 11pt arial; text-align: left; '>He brings up a good point. Dating sims might become palatable if they ever manage to crawl out of the SNES ages</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Problem is that when you're dealing with multiple girls it's hard to imagine some kind of plot where the main character just needs to have sex with every girl in the story that is still somehow meaningful.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Even for a diehard Anime fan you can't honestly say most of the girls that feature in such games are anywhere close to beautiful or cute even by Anime standards. For a game that's supposed to sell on graphics, they sure don't look very promising at all.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>I'll probably never play them, I know two people who are into those Japanese simulations, one is one of my best friends, and he is possibly the most nihilistic and thoughtless person I have ever met. So the whole idea that he plays these games is a big joke to us.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>James Bond is supposed to be like the ultimate male, as opposed to the average dating sim hero whose existence is to reassure that even mere geek/loser can end up with beautiful woman</div>
