  • Bought Hot Shots Golf for the PSP...

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Big fan of the series. I have HSG3 for the PS2 and played the crap out of it. I like the hyper-unrealistic nature of it better than games like EA's Tiger Woods which try to be realistic. The physics and stuff of HSG, like i said, are not true to life, but they are very consistant, which is all you need to know to know what you can and cannot pull off. The Mario games, Tennis and Golf, do this very well, too.

HSG-PSP is more about character development as opposed to the PS2 HSG3 which is more about character unlocking. This game lets you 'level up', so to speak, you favorite character to become better instead of just unlocking a better character. There are still a ton of things to unlock (outfits, clubs, balls, more courses, some characters), which helps keep you playing.

Even with cartoony goofiness, the graphics look fantastic on the PSP. Special shots that have tails of fire and overviews of the current hole are great, it is hard to believe that there is no loading needed. From what i hear EA's TW on the PSP kills you with the loads. In fact, in HSG once you hit the ball you can push triangle and it will automatically take you to the next shot, so if you are in a hurry you dont have to watch the ball in flight and bounce around. Interesting that the game knows so fast where your ball will end up as soon as you choose your power and impact. This feature lets you play a round in record time.

Tons of trick shots to do to be better, easy game to learn, hard to become real good. I'm glad i've added this to my growing library (Lumines, Untold Legends, and now HSG). I rate HSG-PSP a 8/10. Two points off for crappy piano music (which luckily you can turn off) and because it isnt original, just more of a great game.

Current Scores:
HSG-PSP: 8/10
Lumines: 9.5/10 (so addicted, this is the best puzzler since Tetris, hands down)
Untold Legends: 7/10

Yeah, it was so good and popular that Nintendo got Camelot to make Mario Golf out of the original Hot Shots golf. The games are deep enough to make even the skilled gamers work for it, but light enough to have crazy courses. I assume Hot Shots is the same way. Never did pick one up. I played the original for a bit at my old store, and it was quite fun
