So as far as remakes go how does this one rank?
It ranks pretty damn high.
You've all seen the visual upgrades, the game itself is very lively, the graphics are up there in that PS 1.5 state(Some where in between Playstation 1 & 2 in terms of power). Launch Octopus's stage is probley the most attractive one of the bunch. Sigma's Lair got a complete overhaul, all three stages were redesigned, and they look downright amazing.
All the stages got remixed music, and I must say I like it, you have to hook up your PSP to some speakers to really enjoy the music though, cause the PSP's lil sound port doesn't cut it unless you're playing in the dead of night with nothing else going on in the background.
Speaking of sound and effects, the voice actors they used for the in-game dialog and Anime scenes are freakin excellent. Honestly if you were ever annoyed at the piss poor voice acting the Megaman games usually recieved this will make you wet yourself. It's extremely good. I believe the Ocean group is responsible for most of it(People who did FMA), X sounds oddly like Edward Elric. Each of the bosses have their own voice actors who fit their personalities. I also love Vile's voice actor, he was downright petty, and the actor captured that perfectly.
The gameplay is all there, the X-Buster is more lively this time around, it seems it takes a little longer to charge to level 3, but it's not that big of a deal, rapid fire seems to be the way to go 90% of the time anyway save bosses. The only thing that takes getting used to is wall jumping, you seem to go more vertical then horizontal when you dash-launch yourself off a wall. In terms of difficulty the game isn't hard, it gets alot easier once you equip yourself with the breastplate(PS they moved around the locations of the armors, hearts, E Tanks). there is of course a hard mode associated with the game, I've only beat the normal modes for Vile & X.
Speaking of Vile his game is interesting, I started off thinking to myself "good god this is hard", but then I beat X & Zero's tag team attack at the end with less then all 8 heart tanks and 0 e-tanks. ;o Vile is exactly as he's defined, a War Machine. He has a ridiculous and vast artilury. It starts off slow but once you find the right combonation of weapons it's fairly hard to die. Vile's story starts off on the highway you fight X of course and Sigma attempts to recruit him, then to prove his worth he decides to go and kill off all of Sigma's lackies, then come after the big guy himself(He never does though, the end boss for Vile is X & Zero tag team battle, which upset me cause I wanted to give Sigma a try ;o).
Overall this game is pretty amazing, Capcom went all out on this remake, I wonder how much they're gonna do for Maverick Hunter X2. I don't want to post spoilers, but the anime scene showing Sigma's betrayal is pretty awesome and well done, he literally lost his mind.
