  • FF4 Advance's Lunar Ruins = my favourite dungeon in an RPG

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

It's a lot of fun, it's more like a whole new world than a new dungeon. Well, I suppose there are a few games which have better dungeons; Dragon Quarter is an example, but the whole game takes place inside on one dungeon, so I don't know if it counts =)

For a standard FF type RPG, yeah, it's an awesome dungeon =)

Just finished it, finally. I think it's worth playing for Kain's trial alone.

I am saving Kain's for the last. I have finished 5 trials so far (including the twins), this is my second time through the dungeon with 4 new characters, and I just completed Rydia's trial. I actually quite like all of them though, my favourite trial so far was probably Edge's, and that crazy castle to work through. The Twins was also a lot of fun, it reminded me of Daccat's dungeon in Skies of Arcadia, which is one of my favourite dungeons ever in an RPG. Cecil's trial, just think like a Buddhist and you get the Lightbringer sword (which is a pain in the ass to have fighting the end boss of Rydia's trial). Yang's trial was strait forward, Meteor every single battle, and you're set =)

So my first part through: Cecil, Palom, Porom, Edge, yang; all complete. My second party through, Cecil (you always have to bring him), Rosa, Rydia, Edward, and Cid. So Kain will be the last one to go, as a part of my final party.

EDIT: I totally forgot that I cleared out Edwards trial too, it was my least favourite one. It was very short, and very easy.

PS. You KNOW the dungeon is a good one when you have random chocobo fields, towns with all the luxuries of a typical FF4 town, libraries filled with scholars, castles with attendants, and other sorts of settlements sitting right in the middle of the dungeon =P
It isn't just the trials that are good, but the actual dungeon in which all the trials are located, I really enjoy it.

I really recommend this version of the game to anyone who even remotely liked the original. Anyone who knows me knows that I really disliked the original, but I am absolutely loving this new final dungeon.

Alright, I finished off the dungeon completely. The new end boss wasn't too difficult, there was a miniboss before him, a dragon called Brachioraidos or something that I think is optional, I had a hell of a time with that one, but when I killed him I got a hero shield which is the best shield in the game as far as I can tell. Actually, the miniboss is fairly easy if you're lucky, Kain's tornado, from the Abel Spear, hit him on the 7th or 8th round of attacks (after he had killed off three of my party members with insanely powerful attacks) and he died instantly. So I do think it's possible to kill him on the first turn with luck. The last boss killed Rydia once, and we just kind of took him apart; though due to him casting reflect on himself, I had to give Cid a Giant Axe, Cecil an Elf Bow with Yoichi arrows, and Kain just double jumped (SOOO much better than his original jump, much faster, plus 9999 every time; Kain becomes a god after his trial).

I finished the Lunar ruins at 32 hours, and the game itself at 14 hours, so that means I spent about 4 hours longer in the Lunar ruins than I did playing the main game =P

My final team consisted of Kain, Cecil, Edward, and the Twins, levels 76-77. Didn't have too much trouble with Brachioraidos, thanks to Super Kain and Cecil's Lightbringer. The end boss was slightly more difficult, but only because sometimes Lightbringer would cast Holy when he had Reflect on, and it would do 7000-9000 damage, enough to kill any one of my party members instantly.

The last boss is easy as hell, all you need to do is use pyshical attacks on him and no magic, take off your Legendaries, it's EZ Mode.

I was disappointed with it myself.

First time I fought him I died killing myself ;p Then I just switched weapons.
