The last patch made the game crash for me for the first time so this is some real shoddy patching heh

Yeah I noticed last time I played that I crashed to the desktop a couple of times.

Mine chops like no other in certain areas and the mouse sensitivity is definitely fucked up. I used to be able to lockpick a lot better.

So have you guys put in enough time yet to agree Skyrim is really shit as a game, or am I still standing alone on that?

If you measure the amount of time you've put into a game by the dozens of hours then calling it a shit game is kind of a moot point.

Why? I don't measure my investment into Bethsoft sandbox games by "dozens of hours", I expect 100's of hours. Just because the flaws aren't evident until you are deeper in the game doesn't negate said flaws...but hey, that's me.

Games are essentially time sinks. Sure a great, fun game can take five hours to beat and never be fun to play again but I tend to measure how much I get out of the game by how many hours I put into it. If a movie is $10 for two hours, then if I pay $50 for a game I want ten hours out of it. It's stupid but that's how I think about this kind of stuff. MMORPGs are similar, but I tend to want more out of them.. If I'm not putting 15 hours a month into one I'm done with it.

If I only get ten hours out of a game that I'm not going to want to play again, typically a year later I'm going to rather I have the $50 in the bank then the experience I had with that game. Once I've gotten $1/hour out of a game I'm typically extremely happy with it. Anything more is just icing on the cake. Bethesda has made me some very fucking big cakes in the past several years.

I need to get back to the main story line before i pass judgment. Story matters for me and I like the Elder Scrolls world and the lore, so hopefully it wont disappoint.

As far as a game... i see where Kali is coming from. There are far too many exploits for this game to be fair, but I dont want to ramp up the difficulty because it isnt fun to get 1 or 2 hit killed either. Other than the ease, I'm not sure what else you are seeing to make it a shit game. The gameplay and menu is a little clunky maybe.

I beat the game (main story), jacked the difficulty to master, ran around and did a few more quests (including doing the final boss fight again), and got bored.

I think I'm done with Skyrim after my 120 hour time investment. Back to Dark Souls.

Ding. Hit 50, got the last shout needed for the achievement, finished the Theives. Still a few achievements left (can't get Companions on this save). But aside from some rainy day afternoon of racking up the 9 hold bounties, I think I'm due for a break then onto a rogue and/or mage character.

I agree with whoever mentioned the first 30 levels being more fun. It was kind of a drag at the end, especially to get the last few achievements I got. Had to start using a two-handed weapon and light armor 'cause my good categories were maxed. Doing all those repetitive thieves guild jobs in order to get the "special" ones was lame too. And no quest reward in the last 30 hours or so was as good as anything I already had.

Bring on the expansion!

Started a new game on Master difficulty with the intention of playing as a pure mage. That was a mistake. Wearing robes for the magicka regeneration meant everything killed me in one or two shots. Fared slightly better wearing light armor, but still died in any kind of confrontation. The novice magics did shit damage.

Had to lower it to Adept. Still difficult wearing robes (sometimes light armor), though I switched to focussing on conjuration as opposed to destruction. Summon something to soak up damage and attack from behind with conjured sword and firebolts. It's kinda fun. I want to see what the expert level spells are like. Still a lot of running backwards while casting.

Well, I only got the expert destruction spells, but let's just say you won't be complaining about running backwards while casting them :p

Im still working my way through this game and am currently at level 42. The only skills i abused were smithing and speech to get them to 100. My other skills that i frequently use (archey, sneak, one-handed, lockpicking, enchanting, alchemy, etc) are in the 50-70 range. I looked hard at my skill perks yesterday and I am very happy and think ive done a great job. The only wasted one i used was I put one perk in the speech tree to lower prices and get higher sale prices. Other than that, I am right on track to maxing out all the ones I want to. I have a friend who is now pissed that he wasted too many perks in the lockpicking tree and he is contemplating starting over because of it... even though he is level high 20's. Although, i did put one into the archery perk that slows time by 25% when you zoom. I think its almost more annoying than beneficial, the jury is still out on that one. I doubt i will put a 2nd point into it to slow time 50%.

Its actually really hard to level up one-handed and archery when I'm killing things so fast. :) Alchemy is annoying, it builds up soooo slow with each successful potion and I cant seem to find the recipes for the really good potions, so I'm just guess and testing which repeatedly results in wasting good ingredients.

I've smithed a Deadric bow and upgraded it all to hell by using +% smithing equipment and potions. It has no enchantments on it yet since I'm waiting to get that skill up to 100 before I double enchant it with some elemental damage. I was using dual swords as my alternate weapon (2 Deadric swords), but lately have been playing around with daggers (one Deadric dagger and the one you get from the DB quests). My sneak is enough to that I can backstab people pretty easily.

Speaking of backstab, I'm confused as to what the difference is between the shrouded hand wraps and shrouded gloves. One says double bonus to backstab while the other says double bonud to one handed sneak attacks. I guess one works for daggers only while the other is any one handed sneak attack. Regardless, either will get my backstab to x30 damage with a dagger.

There is always confsing double speak in this game. I have a mask that says +20% to archery, which appears to do the same thing as a different helmet that says +20% damage with bows. There is no consistency...

I finished the dark brotherhood quests, started the magic college, and feel as if i have a long way to go with the main story line still. I took a few weeks off from this game before the holidays, but got back into it full force lately for some reason. I suppose I want to set myself up to enjoy the DLC when it comes eventually.

DB gourmet quest and Main story line quest about going to the Thalmor party spoilers:
Spoiler: show
Also, I'm disappointed in the game to not have disguises work better. In a few quests, you find guard armor laying around quite frequently. Or, just by killing a guard. I tried multiple times to wear the Thalmor armor during the quest where you go to some party and then create a distraction to go search the house and find some information about the Thalmor resurrecting the dragons. It never worked and I was always detected.

For the Gourmet quest, i put on some chefs cloths and hat and the guard did make mention of my attire, so I thought that was cool. I wonder if the writ of passage would have been good enough had i know worm the chef disguise? Trying to complete quests with complete trickery does not work as well as i thought it would in this game.

You have to put on the chefs hat to continue the story. It's likely that once the quest point is triggered you can take it off to no effect.
