  • RE5 tonighttttt

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

The economic downturn means publishers are going to hop on the principle like starving refugees, and as they monetize it there will be no way to go back even if the economy later improves. There's a lot of cash involved and a big draw in terms of "mooooom can i please have some more money to unlock this part of my new game", as the dominant force for buying kids videogames for at least a few parents is to get the kids out of their hair for awhile, and the parents will sigh and realize they're getting taken and then get the credit cards out anyway.
You seem to think that the majority of people playing games like Portal and Fallout are 10-year-olds. They're not.
Nope, not Portal, Fallout, or RE5 or a variety of the other popular twentysomething franchises. But go try Final Fantasy: My Life as King on the Wii or any other of a number of the downloadable "tween" games on the various arcade-download sections of all the major consoles. I stand behind my statement fully.

From the article:
IGN wrote:The total download size for RE5 Versus Mode is 1.86MB. You are not, in fact, downloading the content from Xbox Live Marketplace or PlayStation Network. Instead, you are downloading a key that unlocks content already on the RE5 retail disc. The same disc you paid $60 for a month ago.
How have they verified this? Unlock keys are usually only a few kilobytes in size. Why is this one two meg?

There are no new levels, characters, etc. The only thing that is new are these new modes. I don't see why it has to be more than a couple megabytes to accommodate such new content. I doubt I'll get it unless you guys (I'm looking at you Blotus) get it and want to play with moi.

Yeah, usually they're only 108KB but in this case, there could have been a small part of the file left out so no one could hack it.

It doesn't change the fact that Capcom didn't even deny it was already on the disc. I fucking HATE this tendency of companies to just charge for something they've already done rather than making it an extra value for the game

Nah.
