"We have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of PlayStation in 1995 and PS2 in 2000 that the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even it didn't have games," Reeves told Computer and Video Games in an interview. During the same interview, Reeves admits that Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm and Formula One will all see release in early 2007 within the PS3 "launch window." Insomniac's gritty World War II shooter (with aliens) Resistance: Fall of Man will be there at launch according to Reeves.

I think Sony is getting Longshanks syndrome "They are sheep! Mere sheep!"

If you actually hear people (mass-market people, not gamers) in stores talk about the systems, Reeves is right. The masses are sheep, period. They will sell whatever they can make in the first 6 months REGARDLESS of the quality of titles 'cause of their brand name. It's just how it is.

Interest in PS3 has been dropping signficantly though. The latest Famitsu polls have indicated as much: PS3 games have become the minority on the lists, and the system itself, in Japan among Famitsu readers, is yielding not much more than Xbox 360 (which may actually show interest grow significantly over time this generation if Sony leaves the ball on the ground). In North America, it awaits to be seen how things will go; it might be that Sony has enough hype over here to actually sell 3M+ units at that price.
