New info on Wii Virtual Console pricing and DS

First off: it seems as though Voice Chat is becoming a standard within Nintendo's games which have online capabilities, as the next Pokemon games will use it over the WiFi network.

The Opera Browser is coming out next month for DS. The Wii version will come included with the Wii beginning at launch.

Nintendo plans to ship four million consoles by the end of December. It was earlier announced 6 million by the end of the fiscal year.

The DS can be used as a touch screen control for various Wii games, and can also download demoes and other software directly from Wii.

Virtual Console games will sell initially for prices between $4 and $8 and include both classic game titles (from NES, SNES, N64, Turbographx 16, and Sega Genesis) and new games and software. Still no announcement on the bonus methods of receiving VC games (it was earlier announced that one method of distribution could include free VC games as pack in and pre-order deals with other titles, as well as some bonus releases by Nintendo). Still no word as to whether or not the DS can be used to download NES titles for temporary play, but it seems quite likely.

Expect more news to trickle out over time. One thing that was slipped multiple times earlier was the inclusion of a mic within the Wii controller (it just makes sense anyways).

The VC is a major selling point for us oldies. There are a ton of old games out there that instead of going out to find, i would rather DL and play it right then.

I really hope they dont go overboard with the DS/Wii combination. I would prefer to see them as totally seperate systems as opposed to essentially needing one to fully enjoy the other. I still have no plans, and probably never will, to get a DS since i love that the PSP serves as a complete 3 dimensional entertainment package.

The idea of it being a major selling point for oldies, particularly ones who don't really play anymore, is part of Nintendo's whole "reach out to non-gamers" thing. But I'm not convinced ex-gamers will buy a Wii for nostalga's sake, so we'll see if they're sucked in by the new gameplay. But it is a great thing, especially now that they've got Genesis and TG16 games (BTW, R-Type, Adventure Island, and Bonk are officially going to be available for the Virtual Console). I'm hoping Sega will do well and eventually add SMS and Saturn games. There were some incredible Saturn games we never got or were in extremely limited quantities (hello, Panzer Saga).

At the least, the DS/Wii interaction will result in demo downloads to the DS through the Wii, that part is awesome. I played Pac Man Vs, Zelda: Four Swords and Final Fantasy Chronicles and yes, they're fun (Vs is freakin' awesome and Four Swords was great too), but I think they'd actually be limiting the whole point of the Wii's controller by using the DS. Maybe for football to pick plays, but then it limits the throwing unless you're switching back and forth, which is dumb IMO. To me, it's a limited use thing with only very specific types of games.

The DSs games beats the ever-loving shit out the PSPs line-up, which right now, is rather sad. So, get a DS for the games. Like you, I use the PSP to watch movies and for music, but the games aren't very good. If I didn't get a 2GB stick for my PSP I got for free (still overpriced, IMO), I wouldn't use it nearly as much.

I agree with the games, but i think why it fits so well with me is that i dont need a lot of games. The 3 or 4 i have are fun and they take me forever to beat, especially since half the time i am on the go i am watching a TV show or listening to music. I dont think i am half way through GTA:LCS and i've had it since my birthday in December. There are defenitely enough good games out there that i am gamerly satisfied, in fact there are a few out there that i would buy if i could.

I too am very excited about the virtual console. I am thinking that if Earthbound sells well enough on it, over here, that Nintendo will finally wake the hell up and release the GBA versions over here!

As far as DS goes right now for games, it is the only system for over six months that I have bought games for (well, except GBA, but I also play those on DS). It's also the first system in years that I have been playing every day. It is just a lot of fun and a joy to play. I also love how games, such as Brain Age and Tetris, attract a lot of other people to play; everyone seems to love games like that (well, I admit, I am not big on Tetris, but a lot of people are).

I can't wait until they start releasing the dictionary/encyclopedia software over here in North America. The Japenese/English dictionary for DS, which has English learning excersizes, sold over a million copies in Japan; so this looks good for a possible test for this kind of software in the North American market (except in reverse).

The whole range DS connectivity possibilities makes me quite excited. The DS can be used as a controller for the Wii, but I do not know what kind of advantages it will offer, the DS already has two screens, so games like CC and Four Swords can work on the DS without the need of a TV set.

More news: The official price and launch date of Wii will be announced within the next 3 months. The launch date is said to be sometime in October.

Nintendo plans, itself, to produce brand new software for the Virtual Console.

It seems one reason Nintendo hasn't blown its load at E3 is because they want to be announcing new tidbits over the next three months.
