It's too bad we won't see this until 2007. I'll still be buying the earlier released PS2 version (November), but the downloadable songs will probably entice me to pick up this one as well.

DOWNLOAD THIS ON YOUR PRECIOUS 360!!!!
(ps2 version, why do you have to suck?)

Well, if you have the PS2 version of part 1, it would only be natural to get #2 for PS2, it would cost an excessive amount of money to get both versions.

Like I said in DS, motherless fucks. Unless they release compilations of the songs downloadable on 360 to the PS2 so that the PS2 owners can have all the songs as well, I'm never going to buy another new Guitar Hero again. Take that for trying to screw us for actually supporting you (companies don't see profits from used games, just in case you didn't know)

Woah woah woah, wait a second. GH2 will be released on PS2. GH2 will also be released on 360, but with some extra songs. And you deserve these extra songs... how?
Games released on multiple platforms often have extra features not found on the initial release platform. Or did you feel Konami owed you those extra levels in SotN too?

Yes, they easily could have released a special edition of SotN or even updated it for the Greatest Hits release (like Sega did with Virtua Fighter 4). I happened to get the Saturn version regardless, but it's not like they couldn't have done it. At least you wouldn't have to get a whole new system (or import the game) to get the extras.
I deserve them because I was one of the 500,000 people that bought the game brand new and made it a success. Now they're screwing me and every other PS2 owner (all 500,000 of them) who bought the original one and made it possible for them to make another.
It's more of a frustration thing. I don't want to have to buy a new system with another copy of the game to get all of the songs. As long as they at least give the PS2 owners the possibility of getting the extra songs through more expensive expansion discs, it's not really an issue. But, of course, that's not really possible now, is it (you'd need to include a copy of the game with each expansion disc in order to play the new songs unless they all fit on an 8MB memory card)? So, I'll have to wait 'til the 360 comes down to an acceptable price and buy another copy of the game (with a guitar controller) before I can play all of the songs for Guitar Hero 2, which I very much want to do. I was expecting this for the sequels but not for #2.

Speaking of the game. I am playing on hard mode and it isnt really that much fun. I can get through the songs with 3 or 4 stars, but i miss so many notes that i dont even feel like i am playing the song. It is almost more fun for me to just sit back on medium and jam with 99% note hitting.
I guess i just need to work on it, but they make it so freaking tough.

I really don't understand where you got your sense of entitlement. They made a product, you purchased the product and enjoyed it, and now they owe you? By adding in extra features to the 360 version (which are probably infeasible in the PS2 version due to limitations of the system) they're screwing you?
You don't have to buy two copies of the game. If you feel compelled to do so because you want to play everything, it's not reasonable to hold that against them.

I agree with Kupek here. Keep in mind, the Xbox 360 owners still have to buy the controllers, which aren't exactly cheap when it comes to controllers. I spent about 100 dollars on mine, but then again, I live in a location where things tend to cost more, they might be cheaper elsewhere.

You get a big sense of accomplishment on Hard over Medium since you're playing so much more of the song. You're not just playing every 3rd note, you're playing 85% of them. And when you're on Expert and playing 98% of them and getting 85% (even if it's still 3 stars), it feels that you've done that much more.

Yes, Kupek, they're screwing the fans who made the sequel possible by not providing them with the complete game. We bought the game 'cause it was fun and because we bought it, it gave them a) the money and b) the audience to produce a second one. I have zero issues with them porting it over to another system; in fact, I want them too so everyone can enjoy what I think is one of the best games on the system. But to tell those 500,000 people "you're only going to get part of the game because we're moving it over to a new system" is a bit of a slap in the face. We're the ones ankerin' for a new one with as many songs as possible 'cause we loved the original so much. We the ones putting down our money now to ensure we get it opening day. To have another version of the game come that is more? That's not cool, at least not for GH2. For GH3 I can fully understand it plus they can give fans of any system all of the songs through the download service. In this case, they're screwing the PS2 owners.
Like I said before, it's a frustration thing more than anything. I wish they'd release expansion discs every 3 months for it. So, of course, I want to play everything the game has to offer. Now i can't unless I get a second copy of the game. Or, I could wait 'til I buy a 360 then get the game. But I don't want to wait another year, year and a half to get the game.
I just hope by the time I get the 360 they'll have an adaptor for me to use the PS2 guitar on the 360. At least that way it'll lessen the cost of me getting the second copy of it.

So you'd feel better if they had made no upgrades to the 360 version?
I think you're looking at it wrong. You are getting the complete game. GH2 for PS2 is the full game. They did put as much as possible. All 360s, however, have a harddrive and are internet ready; it has capabilities the PS2 does not. That's expected with a next generation console. More is possible with the 360. So they did more. Specifically, they will take advantage of the internet connection to easily distribute more songs, and the harddrive to store them. These extra songs probably woudln't fit on the disc you buy at the store. The way I see it, they said "Hey, look, we can take advantage of these new capabilities to make the 360 version better."
Expansion discs would probably be a loss for them. But that's beside the point.

I know what you're saying, and I don't necessarily disagree, particularly since it's coming out about 6 months after the PS2 version. Like I've said a few times, it's more frustration than anything. Of course, as a fan of the game, I want to have everything it has to offer without having to get a new system. So, as a fan, I do feel screwed by them. Not an issue if it were a sequel, but when it's a super-port, it's an issue. I was pissed about the updated version of Symphony we never got. If I were a big fan of Kingdom Hearts and they didn't release the updated KH2 that included updated stuff and the remake of the GBA game that Japan is getting, I'd be pissed. To me, it's the same thing.
From a business point of view, I agree completely with what they're doing. They're porting a game and giving the newer market more than just a straight port, which is always better for business. But I'm not looking at it from a business point of view, I'm looking at it as a fan. And, as a fan, I feel slighted on this one.
And if they only break even on the expansion discs, it's worth it IMO. As a fan, of course....

I've always thought you were cheap...but I think that's part of why I like you, the little bit of jew in ya. Or maybe it's a middle eastern/mediterranean thing. I know when I came back, it took me a while to shake the urge to negotiate on everything
btw - what are you doing now, work-wise that is? Never asked since you left the game business.

I am now a CA (Certified Accountant), I actually just got my designation confirmation on Sept 21. I'll be moving jobs very shortly from auditing to financial reporting (ie. preparing the numbers the auditors audit; to put it very plainly). So, I've been an auditor for the last 3 years and will be moving into industry on October 16th. Actually be working at Erin Mills and 401, so not too far from you :-)
And I am a very cheap bastard. But that's how I'm able to maximize my self-imposed budgets. It's how I'm able to get 3-4 times as many games and DVDs (at least) as I would be able to otherwise and how my wife and I (she's cheap as well) can save so much money even with a mortgage and a car payment and the other standard expenses. Of course, my many years of nerdom and contacts I've built around my city through those years and my business really help.
But that's very un-Arab of me. Most of my family members are very free spenders even when they can't afford to be. The Jewish people I've met are very good with their money (note, I'm not saying cheap, just know how to manage it; and make it as well, whereas Arabs generally only know how to take it) whereas the Arabs I've met are usually bad with it. It's one thing I definetely learned from my fellow semites :-)
