From Magicbox:

- Bloomberg reported that Sony has only delivered 175,000 units of PlayStation 3 at US launch on November 17, as opposed to 400,000 units. Sony did not confirm the number reported by American Technology Research, and GameStop has confirmed that the second shipment of PlayStation 3 will be arrived to retailers on Friday, November 23, to meet the large demands during the US Thanksgiving weekend

Less than half the promised amount of 400,000. Now you know why they're going for $3k on ebay

I doubt a lot of those bids over $3,000 were legit. I almost thought of getting one to sell myself, but I'm worried they're going to go down to $1000 or less very soon...heck, they already are:

I heard there are 20000 PS3s on EBay, which would mean more than 10% of the entire supply was on EBay. Compared to about 4% (4000 out of 100K) for Japan and that's probably why PS3 sold for more here.
