  • PSP, for me, has really picked up some steam (thank god)

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

I've been playing the crap out of Roco Loco still, and i recently bought Pirates! Its a great port for a handheld since the gameplay is easy to pick up and put down.

I'm excited about the Castlevania collection and the FF remakes. I'm not really playing anything on the PS2 lately but GH2 and FF12 and there is nothing good, that i know of, on the horizon for it, so i'm glad to have something that is getting good games. One thing pissed me off, though. Sony made a dowloadable store for the PSP to get PS1 games, BUT you have to have a PS3 to do it!?!??!... how lame is that?

I bought a nice 27 inch widescreen HD LCD for my room in the house with my friends, so am itching to get a next-gen, but am still disappointed with the game lists for both 360 and PS3. Nintendo is kicking ass, and making themselves look attractive, but personally i still dont think i'd have fun with the system. I really really wish the Wii decided to be a more expensive system with better graphics and processing. Then, you can have all your Wii Sports and gay shit like surgeon games, and also have some impressive blobkbuster titles with great story, sound and visuals. Well, even if they had done that, i still dont think i could wave a controller around for 3 hours. I love to veg with a beer, a bowl of goldfish, and play FF12 for a long period of time without having to move an inch.

Oh well, when Assasins Creed comes out later this year, and then FF13 next year, i'll probably then pick up a PS3 inbetween. Although, it is hard to pass up EBX's deal right now... trade in a PS2, two controllers, and a mem card for 100 bucks off a PS3.

The PSP has picked up a bit, I agree. But I still think they're a bit on the slow side, particularly when you compare it to the DS, which releases a great game at least once a month (during the slow times), often more. The selection is so varied on that system it's amazing. I'm still using my PSP for music and videos mainly, but there's enough games on it now that I'm actually playin' it more now.

Loco Roco definetely helped it's a great fun game. MGS Portable I still need to get and I can always go back to my MM games, which are incredible (God I hope Inafune uses his new-found influence to finish all of the remakes). The Capcom collections and other Capcom games (Ultimate Ghosts N Goblins) are a good strength of the system. Really, Konami and Capcom are carrying that system right now games-wise, but I still use it mainly as a media player. Now that I'm able to get UMDs for much less than $10 Cdn used, I'm getting some of those as well. Got Starship Troopers and Nightmare Before Xmas recently and am looking for decent other ones.

But still, if I hadn't gotten it for free, I probably still wouldn't have one. Hasn't really dropped in price much and still not enough on the system to warrant the full-price purchase IMO

Right now, the 360 has really picked up a lot of steam. They're really taking advantage of the year head start they've got going. I've got about 15 games for that system (3 of which are the BK games :-). Nintendo has a strong first-party release schedule that looks to be about a game a month at least (including Super Paper Mario and Donkey Kong Bongo Blast from the GC) from now through the summer which means their third-parties can catch up a bit. It looks like the Wii may follow the DS route and start off with strong first-party at the beginning with some third party sprinkled in but by the end of the first year start getting a lot of third party games.

Sony looks like they're using the PS2's strong sales to tide them over 'til the third party games for the PS3 start coming out. They really have nothing right now on that system other than Resistance. And since they've got so many of their previously exclusive games going to Xbox now, that system for this upcoming year might be nothing more than a $660 MGS4 adaptor for me (not overly interested in FF13 but it's likely not comin' 'til next year anyways). That's too much right now. But if the games come out and I can finally get one for a decent price, I will, just too expensive for not enough right now.

360 really isn't much better than the PS3 price-wise, but they've got many more great games. Don't know if it's worth the $500 plus tax, but it's more attractive than the PS3. Even the Wii isn't really worth the $280 (all these are Cdn) right now as there's only really one must-have (Zelda) and a bunch of other "great" titles (Elebits, Wario Ware) and some decent stuff (Trauma Centre, Monkey Ball). The channels are neat but nothing to buy a system over IMO. But at $280, it's not really like throwing your money away too much, especially when it's half price of the others. But you're not getting your HD gaming (Gears does look amazing on my 42" LG plasma).

Right now, really, the DS is the only system that's worth it IMO. It's not even close in terms of good games coming out. It has more good games on it than the other 4 systems combined and it's cheaper than all of them by far.

Price isnt really an issue. I want good sound, looks, and gameplay and and am willing to pay for it. I mean, i dont make a lot, but at my age i seem to have enough disposable income, which is why i wish the Wii was beefed up and more expensive. All the systems will be fun eventually, so i'd rather have the top of the line, make use of what tech is available...

You can't compare the PSP to the DS. If everyone stayed away from one system because another system was simpley better in some areas, we'd have a sad sad market. I don't regret buying a Sega Saturn, because althrough the PSX had a greater library, the SS had some really nice gems.

Oh, the Saturn was great. But the PSP in its first couple of years hasn't endeared itself to me that well. It's got a trickle of good games, but nothing that can really be considered a "must-have". It doesn't have a Twilight Princess or a Halo or a Goldeneye. It has good and great games, but nothing worth spending the money on it for.

Then get the 360, it's easily your best bet right now. The PS3 doesn't look like it's going to pick up before year end and the 360 will have most of its games anyways. Rent the PS3 for MGS4 and then wait to get it for FF13 when it's far cheaper. The 360 has a lot of solid games and many are cheap now, it'll be a year at least before the PS3 can say that. It's games are much slower now than the 360 at that time.

Besides first person shooters and sports games, what is the 360's must have games?...

I think the next big one is going to be Crackdown. It's a sandbox game where you're a super cop in a city full of gangs.

Well, Gears isn't really a traditional FPS. It doesn't play like one at all. If you try to play Gears the way you play Quake or Halo, you'll get slaughtered. It's specifically designed to kick your ass if you run and gun. Oblivion got numerous awards as RPG of the year for 2006 and apparantly it's a little more console-like than the previous Elder Scrolls iterations. Viva Pinata is a silly sounding game but it's pretty neat. I tried it for a short while at my bud's EB but haven't really gotten into it too much. Lego Star Wars 2 is far better on the 360 with improved graphics and I think even some downloadable stuff, but I haven't gotten to it yet. PGR3 is an excellent racing game as is Burnout Revenge, but that's multi system. They're both really cheap now too. Rockstar Table Tennis is better than you think it's going to be (it's good). I heard Tomb Raider Legend is good. And I'll pick up King Kong for very cheap (less than $10 cdn), it's supposed to be absolutely gorgeous and Ancel has earned at least a look from me after Beyond Good and Evil. Of course there's Dead Rising and Lost Planet now as well, both of which are 3rd person adventure games more than FPSs. And like Kupek said, Crackdown's comin'.

And you always have the XBLA stuff. Geometry Wars and Texas Hold 'Em are great. You have your classics like Contra and Pac-man if you care. And Symphony is coming soon. And, of course, you can play the vast majority of Xbox games on it too.

It's been out long enough to have enough stuff for everyone, not just the sports/FPS fan. With Sony faltering and dragging their feet, their upcoming line-up is going to be strong. Everything the PS3's getting aside from FF13 and MGS4 really. Peter Moore was right, right now your best bet is to actually get the Wii and the 360 together, you get the wide range that way and you're barely miss out on anything. Nothing you can't rent a PS3 over 'til it finally comes down to a reasonable price.
