Sony: "PS3 price drop not in the plans"

They sell about 60% of what they were projecting and still don't think it's the price

They're hoping Blu-Ray catches on and boosts the sales but I don't think it's going to have that much of an effect. It's not like the PS2 success with the DVD player which was perfectly timed, no one really wants Blu-Ray other than those who already have it IMO

Well, they screwed up big time. They even have the audacity to bloat their sales numbers in Europe with tens of thousands of cancelled pre-orders in the UK alone, included in their press release as actual sales. The major issue is that they invested too much into this so-called "Cell Processor" and Blu Ray. Otherwise we might have a 350 dollar system with roughly the same capabilities that could be dominating the market now. Just poor decision making over at Sony.

Fine by me. Let the publishers and developers see Sony falling behind. Bring more games to the other two consoles, requiring me to only need to buy a Xbox360 to get my hi-def fix.

Hell maybe this will even result in ports of other previously-exclusive PS3 titles (FFXIII anyone?).

The big rumour is the FF13 and MGS4, the only reasons left to get a PS3 IMO, may get ported over to the 360. But I think that's only a ploy to get big time exclusive coin out of Sony and it won't happen for a year or so. We eventually saw MGS2 ported to 360, but that was half-assed and after a stretch

I like how they've eliminated the $500 system in the US, good move there.

The Blu-Ray player was totally unneccesary-- Sony only put it in there to push Blu-Ray into the market so it could be the next VHS victory.

PS3 games don't even use BR discs, and no one I know is bothering to buy Blu-Ray / HD-DVD movies ($25-$30 a pop)...so all this does for the PS3 is jump the price up over $200.

Microsoft had the best solution-- offer an expansion player that, while expensive, is still cheaper than any other player on the market.

With the PS3, you get a more powerful system with a bigger HD, built-in wireless, and Blu-Ray for cheaper than getting a 360 with the HD drive. It's still $100 US for a freakin' wireless adaptor from Microshaft for cryin' out loud!

But Sony's system really is the better deal....it's just no one cares.

And I sure as hell wouldn't pay full price for a 360 right now either. $500 Cdn is just too much regardless of how good the games are

Not much more really has to be said with numbers like these.

April 9 - 15, 2007
DSL - 133,325
Wii - 75,759
PSP - 24,850
PS2 - 12,872
PS3 - 11,948

If those are accurate, it didn't even beat the PS2. *That's* just sad.

Before the PS3s release, Sony said they have the two systems this year to sell with the PS3 fully taking over this Xmas.

But even combined they didn't reach the PSP or 1/3 of the Wii.

what is "bigger HD"?? If you think anything will be worth being about 1080i within the next 5 years you're delirious.

I'll give you the wireless, I dunno wtf Microsoft is doing with that...it's sick, I had to pay $90 for the Linksys adapter...but there are many, many ways around this which I should have done (share internet off my PC).

HD-DVD = $200 + $400 for Xbox
PS3 = $600.

Seems great to me, means I save $200 if I don't want to bother with High Def DVD's yet. PS3 doesn't give me a choice and it's not even used

Sorry, my mistake. HD = harddrive

ahh you mean HDD :P

Yeah it's bigger...but I've been using my 360 for 3 months now and I still have just under 10gig free. Plus a 120gig drive is coming out in a few months, so if you really need the space you can grab it.

20gig on one system can go a lot further than 60gig on another.

You probably won't be hearing any Canadians complain that the 360's 20gb HDD is too small since we can't download movies or TV shows anyway... unless you're some freak who has to have every demo and trailer off marketplace at your fingertips.

I wouldn't pay for them even if I could. That's why God invented Bittorrent
