Did anyone here know that the Xbox Live cards expire?

Apparently, those pre-paid Xbox Live cards you buy expire! I did not know that. I bought a year's (four 3-month cards) worth a month or so ago and tried to renew my Gold membership. The cards expired on June 30th! Has anyone else gotten screwed by this?

I called Xbox Customer Service and the girl refused to help me with it. She even claimed to have talked to a supervisor. I asked her if I could give them the codes on the back of each card to prove that they were never used so that they could activate my account for a year. I asked her if they could credit my account the $50 or whatever it costs so that I could then use that money to get Xbox Live. I asked her if they could just activate Live from June 30th for a year since I basically bought a year of Live that is now useless to me.

She claims that she has no power to do anything like that. So tomorrow I am off to Walmart to try and return them. If that doesn't work, I am back on the phone to speak to the supervisor and demand Live for a year.

Annoyed, I am.

Give 'em hell!

I hate the fact that gift cards expire. I hate gift cards full stop, actually. So they're like money, except you can only use them at the one store, and you end up with some ridiculous amount left on them that you need to spend more money to actually claim, and they expire after a year? Bargain!

I think it's more effective to just give somebody cash. Or better yet, just don't give them a gift, because you obviously don't care enough to give them anything good.

All gift cards expire eventually... normally within 1-2 years.

I bought a Live! card... 12+1 month card... why'd you bother with multiple small ones?

It was cheaper. It was $40 total at Walmart on sale.

That's what I paid back in January at Circuit City for my 13 month card ;)

Even so, why couldn't you load them all on at once after you bought them?

I could have, but I didn't think it was urgent. I figured I'd do it once my 1 month trial had expired.

I took them back to Walmart and got a gift card for all 4. I buy enough stuff there that it was fine with me as long as I got a refund. :)
