some nice stuff actually, though not the one thing I need the most.

Feature additions on your Wii console when it is updated to version 3 from version 2:

Wii Menu
The weather forecast will now be displayed on the Forecast Channel icon in the Wii Menu.
Headline news will now be displayed on the News Channel icon in the Wii Menu.
The current time will now be displayed in the Wii Menu.
The area around the Wii Message Board button will now flash when a message arrives.

Wii Message Board
You're now able to rearrange the order of your Wii Friends in the address book.
You're now able to go into the Wii Friends registration screen by pressing the A Button on a blank spot in the address book.
Envelope message icons will now appear on the calendar only on the dates when a message is received.
Your message sending history will now be displayed in Today's Accomplishments.
You can now scroll the message text by pressing the B button on the message screen.

Wii Shop Channel
The search function on Virtual Console has been enhanced.

Of course what I really need is more menu space, I now have only 5 empty screens left. 8^( I dont want to have to delete stuff and re-download it, I want to just click on whatever I want to play right when I want to play it.

Very, very minor upgrade. They really need to add useful stuff like maybe a Virtual Console channel where you can just have a list of all of the downloaded games rather than have them take up a channel each. That's pretty stupid IMO

Seems like an excuse for them to say it wasn't purely a way to get the "hot games" on their Virtual Console screen than anything.

I like the stuff with the news channel, and I trade messages with several people (check your board btw) so that it flashes is nice for me as well. but yeah, I would love a VC channel, or even just a few more pages of screens, either would work fine for me.

they added a "most popular" section in the store.... so you can see what most people are buying..... surprise surprise it's mostly mario games

Nice additions =)

Mostly predictable upgrades though, these are a portion of the suggested enhancements that people have been discussing for a while.

More menu space would be nice, I agree, but SD memory cards are a good place to store things, but I think it is actually probably faster to just re-download everything, since it seems to take like 5-15 seconds or so to download, but it feels like it takes forever to transfer files to SD memory cards, or does my card just suck?

That is reversed for me. Downloads usually take about a minute while transfer take about 15 seconds or so.

What I want to see is the ability to read and save games straight from/to the SD card. The Wii's file copy system is rudimentary (it doesn't even give you timestamp info!) and you can't just overwrite existing files. You have to delete from one side and then copy to it.

I don't know if there just isn't an API for games to be able to do that or whether there is a way, but they just don't. I play games over other people's houses enough that it's kind of a pain if we both have saves for the same game.

Not mentioned in the original post, but USB devices are now able to be used, particularly USB keyboards.

But only in the store and message board. They don't work with Opera yet.

That will probably require an Opera update.

Yeah, maybe. It figures too, because that's really the only place I'd want a USB keyboard. :)

I wonder if future Opera updates will be free for those who already have the browser.

Mine has been acting funky.

If it's been a few days since I used it last, when I first try to load a game or a channel it just hangs with a black screen for a good minute before it loads. I am thinking of contacting Nintendo.

I use to have it hang on a rare occasion and I really don't turn my system on more than once or twice a week. I've actually had to unplug the power from it to reset it. But I think the update before this past one took care of that, I haven't had it happen for a while. I'm wondering if they had minor crashing issues?

I also had to replace a controller that just wouldn't turn on anymore. Before that, the only issue I've ever had with a Nintendo system is the PIN on the original NES. Looks like they're slippin' a bit.

Out of curiosity, what was the problem with your Wii?

CD-ROM quit working altogether.

But the power and everything was still on? Because I do know that power surges can cause the Wii to appear dead (happened to two people I work with just recently during a couple of heavy thunder storms), but it is due to a breaker inside the console which is reset when the power cord is unplugged for 20 minutes, and then it begins to work again.
