I would halfway believe it if it wasn't for all of the other excuses. Anybody that doesn't believe in projects being "haunted" hasn't heard about
Terry Gilliam's haunted project.

Even in their explanation that the supernatural had a hand in things AT BEST would explain why the game was so delayed... but not why it sucked so bad.
How do you explain that ghosts were responsible for you implementing an atrocious control system that doesn't work well, AND a game that chokes half the time on its own graphics?
The more games I see for the PS3 the LESS impressed I am with it as a system.

I listened to some of the
EGM Live podcast where the EGM reviewer talked to someone from Factor 5 about its 5.5 score. His argument came down to "it's your fault you didn't enjoy the game," and judging from what and how he was saying, he honestly believes that. He seemed unable to accept that his game had faults - which shouldn't be surprising, we're all like that. But it's still sobering to hear.

I understand being fiercely loyal to your work... but they broke two cardinal rules of console game development:
1) Keep a decent frame rate throughout the entire game
2) Button/Control layout that won't piss off your customers... AND that works 100% of the time.
How can you just IGNORE both of those? I dunno... I like their bold attempt at a different control system... but it didn't work! This had to be something that they noticed in QA...

They did find out about it in QA. They discovered it, and blamed the players. Listen to the podcast, it's interesting to listen to the intellectual acrobatics he has to go through to not blame the game.

I only listened as far as that part... where he says gamers don't know how to use it and they're not "open minded" enough. Then I looked at the total time and saw it was an hour+ podcast and closed it
Did he even THINK about that response? He's fucking insulting his customers... "only idiots and closed minded jerks can't play Lair". Geezus, even Microsoft isn't that stupid... when the Xbox heat issue came out they didn't say "well only irresponsible people will have broken Xbox's".
I'm starting to now understand why everyone refers to Factor-5 as the guys who made Rogue Squadron... which is about 10 years old by now.

So, what was the point of QA again? You beta test; everybody complains, and you blame everybody, instead of fixing the problems.

Sine, that may have been the funniest thing you've ever said...oh, man.

Funny? I wasn't being funny at all. This is exactly what happened. If anything, laugh at Factor 5.
I've never heard of this group, and frankly, I don't think I'll ever hear from this group again. The company will file chapter 11 because after this stunt, nobody would ever give them any capital for another game.

There are certain limits to this. No matter how fiercely "religious" you are about your company, when you go take a shit in the restroom, you complete know that it is shit that you are flushing away, and not cotton candy or gold bricks or anything like that.
(See, now I'm trying to be funny, Nev.)
I'm also reminded of a Babylon 5 episode about how thinking that the world is wrong and you are right is the stupidest and most dangerous state of mind anybody can be in. Serial killers and insane people think this way, and they always believe that they are right, and it's the world that is wrong.

Sine, as always, provides the unintentional irony. Your habit of wild accusations on minimal information never gets old.
Factor 5 has been around since the early '90s, and is best known for the Rogue Squadron series. I doubt one bad game will break the company.

although I do own two of their games, I must say that the rogue squadron series was not so good. Simply padding my minuscule N64 and gamecube libraries. 360 gets bioshock, wii gets metroid, ps3 gets warhawk..... so some bad games came out too, I don't know why lair is getting to much press, who thought it would be good? You don't hear Mistwalker telling us stories about how blue dragon is actually a masterpiece.

I wondered this at first... but apparently Lair enjoyed a HUGE amount of hype and was originally intended to be the PS3's launch title. That...and this whole mess with them blaming everything from their customers to god for it makes things interesting

Fine, whatever. It looks like
they barely have any original ideas for their games anyway. Even Ballblazer was originally one of the first LucasFilm games.

just in case you thought that everyone forgot how bad it was..... Sony puts a video on the PSN to teach people how to play the game.
