Dude!

I love the old Final Fantasy games too, but you take this shit to an entirely new level. They weren't *that* good!!!!

I have to disagree with you there Nev. In my personal opinion, Final Fantasy still has not topped the greatness they achieved with FFVI and FFIV.

These are indeed classic games, but I refuse to shell out for the remakes.

There's too much good original IP out there, plus I bought the U.S. version of FFIV about six times already anyway!

The improvements on the GBA FF4 were quite substantial, it was one of those remakes that was well worth the price. Now they are taking things to a WAAAAY higher level than I think has been done in a remake before. The game is essentially a new game altogether utilizing a story and characters that are known to be awesome. Well, I do know there will be at least 3 or 4 of us here getting it =)

You two are such Square sluts!

Don't come bitching to me in the next five years at any point about how the industry isn't putting a high priority on original IP, then. XD

And I wondered who'd been singlehandedly supporting the Square female-character blowup-doll industry. It's the two of you!!!!!! ;D

(Just messing with you guys, I'm glad you're enjoying the games, but I don't want to play those games over again really at this point.)

Just a quick overview of what this version of the game adds:

-3D graphics
-Voice acting
-75% rewritten script
-New locations
-Reworked locations
-Reworked battle system
-Minigames added
-Feature for enhanced replayability (probably some sort of a New Game+ feature)
-Rearanged music by Nobou Uetmatsu
-New story events

This version of the game communicates expression far better than the old versions did.

If I end up buying it because of the music rearrangements, I'm heading up to Canada with a tranq pistol and a round with your name on it! Curse you, Dutch!!!

I swear, dude, you should go to either Nintendo or Square and ask for work in the fucking ad department. We can't stop it, and you're gonna do it anyway, so why not get paid for it? Plus you might actually have convinced me to put these fucking retreads on my wish list! WTF is the Shrine coming to? XD

EDIT: What was I even so mad about here? I need to get over this nonsense.

FF9 did, it's on the same level as FF4 but not quite as good as FF6 IMO

FF9 had some awesome locations, like Treno which is one of the best towns ever in a game, and really cool characters and side characters. Plus I liked the FF1 links. Despite all of that, I can't say it is one that I really liked a great deal. I just couldn't get past the enormous amount of filler in that game; chasing an adrogynous super-human with long white hair around the world, where the **** did they get an idea like that?!

FF4, I originally didn't really like the game very much. I thought it came off as being kind of unpolished, but I loved the music in it. When I played the GBA remake, I actually REALLY enjoyed the game, much more than I ever did in the past. I know someone mentioned this before, but the GBA FF game is worth it just for the epilogue alone; the new location and missions are REALLY well done.

Final Fantasy 9 was just too damn weird for me, even though I finished it and never finished 8. Quina kind of creeped me out as the "humor relief" choice of the hour.

I never thought the SNES era FFs are that great. I'm even less excited about remakes that will feature one more dungeon at the end with updated graphics that gets called as a new game.

Shining Force Neo is an example of what should be done on a remake.

Final Fantasy 4, otherwise known as "Final Fantasy: Everybody Dies"

EDIT: BTW, the "3D" graphics looks like they are first-generation FF7-style shit. Horrible...

I also greatly enjoyed FFIX, but not as much as IV or VI, for me it is in 3rd. And I still feel that VII is WAY overrated.

that's because it is. it's opening is still my favorite area of any game I've ever played but as soon as you leave Midgar it just begins a downward spiral into mediocrity and shit.....although I do oh so love Cid in that one

That's more like Everyone Dies but Did Not.

I don't understand why we're supposed to be excited about some backwards graphics just because it's applied to an even more backwards game. Even if you do a verbatim remix, you can at least meet the standards of Wild Arms Code F where they at least tried to make the graphics up to date.

It's a DS game though...

At anyrate, MOST EXCELLENT. I am glad I never bought the GBA remake of IV--now I can just buy this one and get a much better version. Sweet!

FF2 (4) was the first real RPG I ever played, so it holds a lot of sentimental value for me. I may pick it up just for that.

That's pretty much exactly how I felt about FF7. But everyone seems to love it (generally those who didn't play RPGs before it love it more) which is why it gets so damned much on Ebay even though there's over 2 million copies out there

That is also very close to what my opinion is of the game. FF7 was the first RPG I ever played that really felt like it had loads of filler in it. The first disk though, that was excellently done. I have played through the entire game twice, but I have played through the opening Midgar portion about 7 or 8 times.

The deal with the graphics, they are a huge improvement for the reason that they now allow the characters to convey emotion far greater than they ever did in the past. The graphics are PSX level, but they utilize higher detail than FF7 characters (which didn't even have hands), they are equal to late generation PSX titles like Final Fantasy 9. Also keep in mind these are DS games blown up onto a TV monitor, recorded by video cam, and then dumped on youtube =P

I should also note that the main people involved in the development of Final Fantasy 4 are Hiroyuki Ito and Takashi Tokita; also the same guys that did Final Fantasy 9, so there are going to be similarities there. They also did the original version of Final Fantasy 4.

Though if you want some additional notable background on what these guys have done before, aside from FF4 and 9, they have played strong roles in most of the main FF series, but their most notable appearances outside FF4 and 9:

Ito: directed Final Fantasy 6, designer of FF Tactics, and director of Final Fantasy 12 after Matsuno left. Ito is also the creator of most of the gameplay aspects that we came to know in Final Fantasy before FF11; he created the ATB, the magic systems, most other aspects within the battle system, alongside many minigames like Triple Triad, Tetra Master, and more.

Tokita: directed Chrono Trigger, directed Parasite Eve, and is the main guy behind the Final Fantasy remakes.

Also, of course, on the prohject are Uematsu and Amano; who worked on every Final Fantasy game. This is about as talented as a team Square could put on a project at the moment; with Matsuno and Sakaguchi gone, and Kitase not being very active since Final Fantasy 8.

Just because you're on a system with inferior firepower doesn't mean sucky graphics is suddenly good. That's like saying if we release Starfox 3 for SNES it's cutting edge if it has more than 25 polygons making up the Arwing because it's on the SNES.

If you can't make something fancy you at least shouldn't make something that reminds everyone how much it sucks.

Strictly from a marketing point of view, in 2007, there are considerable advantages towards developing a DS game rather than an SNES game =P

Final Fantasy 3 DS sold over a million copies, there's no reason that Square shouldn't give a similar, and far more extensive, treatment to Final Fantasy 4.

If you consider FF4 DS's graphics "sucky" then Shining Force Neo's graphics are certainly nothing special, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH_-vZVBMTU and the game shouldn't have been made =P

BIG difference between making a portable game and calling the graphics "good" and making a console game and calling the graphics "good". If the 360 fit in your hand then yes, the DS graphics would suck for FF4. But it doesn't so it's a different point of comparison. You know compare it to other handheld devices, not to the consoles.

Yeah, I forgot it was for the DS. That's actually pretty good for a DS game.
