Why the hell did the Wii go up? Can't be Metroid only, gotta be increased supply.

I'm curious to see how the 360 hardware sales go in Oct to Dec. They really do have an awesome lineup of games, they should remain very strong.

It ain't Metroid; proving again the power of casual gaming, Wii Play outsold it significantly.

Software sales for September:

Halo 3 (360) 3.3 million

Wii Play w/ Remote (Wii) 282K

Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS) 224K

Madden NFL 08 (PS2) 205K

Skate (360) 175K

Madden NFL 08 (360) 173K

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii) 167K

BioShock (360) 150K

Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day (DS) 141K

Heavenly Sword (PS3) 139K

Far out, didn't expect Halo 3 to go that hard that fast.

On the hardware numbers: Jesus Christ, the PS3 is getting done. Strong sales for the PSP, though!

Metroid Prime 3 is the fastest selling game in the history of the series (according to Kaplan), amazingly enough. It's not all bad for adventure style games though, Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition will probably double Capcom's target. The game passed 750K last month according to Capcom when they expected a total of 420,000 units to be sold total. Capcom must be happy about that, the game RE4 has probably sold over 5 million units total now.

Poor PS3. Maybe sales will pick up before Christmas when GTA4...... oh... nevermind.

Not ragging on the system, I'm just kind of feeling sorry for it. I'll buy you someday, baby.

Yeah, I really want games for it to come out that I actually want to buy. I've become something of a 360 whore by default, just because that's where all the games I want to play are. But Sony needs to stay in the race; no industry benefits from a Microsoft monopoly :(.

What's amazing is that Metroid outsold Bioshock. It HAS to be the Halo effect but I'm wondering how many copies Metroid will sell before year end. The original sold 800k or so if I remember correctly with the second only about half that. I believe the third has already hit 400k. That's great news for fans of the series.

One of the few series' in which every single game released has been very good or excellent IMO.

How is it you love Symphony but not Super Metroid? Symphony is essentially Castlevania done Metroid-style. They actually call that type of game Metroidvania very often (it's in articles all the time) 'cause they share so many of the same gameplay elements.

3-D ones are amazing, an excellent example of how to take a 2-D game and make it 3-D while still maintaining the feel and essence of the 2-D game IMO.

I think a lot of people were turned off by the fact that it looks like an FPS, and felt like an FPS, but didn't in any way play like an FPS. It's a first-person view but an adventure/exploring game (I've been calling them first-person adventure games since they came out) and probably has more in common with Zelda than Halo or Half Life. Bioshock is almost like a mixture between Halo and Metroid, at least that's the way I see it.

Is that what it was for you or was it something else? I mean, I had a hard time going to the PSX FF games 'cause I loved the old ones so much and just didn't like the change (although I adored FF9). It could be the Mega Man effect where you want more of the same so much you're not willing to accept something different.

I'm not bitching about you not liking it, it's your opinion. I'm just very curious why 'cause I haven't really met anyone in person who liked the old games that didn't like the 3-D ones. It's usually the newer gamers who haven't played the old ones or who think all FPS-looking games should be Doom/Quake/Half Life/Halo (there was about 10 years between Super and Prime 1, a full generation gap, two for gaming systems). I've met a lot of those but not any 2-D Metroid fans who didn't like the 3-D ones, at least not in the gaming stores up here.

You certainly don't need to introduce me to the term Metroidvania. I probably read, and listen to, more about videogames than anybody here, not that I'm proud of it.

I'm not sure why I couldn't ever get into Metroid, but I'll try and explain. When Metroid was released for the NES, my brother got it and played it to completion. I can remember watching it, Justin Bailey code and all, but never interested enough to play it myself.

I bought a copy of Super Metroid when I bought my second SNES, long after I had my Playstation. Perhaps because of all the praise behind it, and because it was the case of me being late to the party, I did not especially enjoy the hour I played of it. It's still sitting in my closet.

I bought Prime when it was released for the GC and it just bored me. I thought to lock-on combat was lame, especially after playing FPS (yeah, I know, it's a FP Adventure) where you could use the right stick to aim, not the dumb hold-the-trigger-to-aim mechanic from Goldeneye which just seemed archaic and pointless at that point. Also, scanning=lame. My roomate ended up finishing it, and Prime 2 afterwards.

As for Symphony: while it does borrow the Super Metroid formula heavily, it's a beast of its own. It was the RPG elements of leveling up, multiple weapons/armor, tons of different enemies, not to mention the incredible music, which first captivated me. That game delivered in every department. Even if I were to go back to Super Metroid now, there's no way I could squeeze as much enjoyment out of it as I did SotN.

I had the same problem. Metroid Prime is one of those games that I recognise is great, but just can't get into. God of War is the same way.

Sorry you couldn't get into Super Metroid, though. It's one of my favourite games ever.

I don't like the Metroid or the later Castlevania formulas. I'll play it, but my favourite formula is still easily Dracula's Curse. Though, I have to admit, somehow I REALLY enjoyed Faxanadu which uses a similar formula to that seen in Portrait of Ruin.

Fair enough. I mean, your reaction is your reaction regardless of what others think. I just found it strange since the games are so similar.

Maybe it did have to do with you coming late to the party. Especially if you played Symphony first, that would really do it as Symphony built upon it with the RPG elements.

I just suggest that someday when you're gonna take the game on its own and not compare it to Symphony, pick up Super Metroid and give it a shot again. There's a reason it's so revered, it really is one of the best 2D platformer/adventure games ever made, really only equalled by Symphony (I say Aria as well, that one was amazing).
