I've got it. Anybody else getting it for 360?

Tessian, I know you can't.

Zeus, you won't play for Live to play online.

Sine/Seraph? Bov? Lox?

sorry, but I'm going to get it for the ps2.... already have 2 guitars for that. Apparently rock band guitars will NOT work for GH3, but GH3 controllers will work with rock band. LINK. Before I had heard this news, I just assumed I was going to get rock band and then get guitar hero 3 afterwards.... all for the 360, RB with instruments and use the guitars to play on GH3, but apparently the universe is much more interested in destroying my dreams than anything else.

Hahaha I didn't even know it came out till today when I saw you playing it... funny that you remember I was threatened with bodily harm if I got GH3 :P

I might be on this evening.

How's the guitar for the Wii? It looked pretty cool. If I hadn't owned GH2 for the 360, I'd have considered getting it for the Wii.

I don't know why some people are interested in the Wii guitar. It's the same thing except you put the wiimote in the guitar... so? Ah, it makes noise from the wiimote speaker. Beh.

You did the right thing buying the 360 one, Lox. No friend code bullshit, better online, cleaner graphics, downloadable content.

The only other reason I'd have considered the Wii version was that I have 2 friends with Wii's and no 360's that were supposed to buy GH3. Turns out that neither did (maybe they'll get them as Christmas gifts).

The rumble and the use of the Wiimote speaker just sounded cool to me. Don't mock my dreams, Blotus!!!!!! Don't mock my dreams!!!

I'm becoming one of those people who loves achievements though. haha I get excited everytime I get one, so that's in the 360's favor also. :)

Runs really well so far, and actually I haven't seen any sign of the friend codes yet, though I haven't actually tried to play anyone online yet.

And as I have no interest in ever getting a 360, as a result of there being virtually NO games for the system that I am interested in outside of arcade, it was defidently the way to go for me.

I got GH3 for 360 and will be doing the same for Rock Band. I got GH2 for 360 for cheap (game has 10 extra songs over the PS2 version) so I'll have to wait 'til GH4 to play GH3 2 player on the 360...unless a patch is released *prays*

And DLC is the reason I got the 360 version. Microsoft pays extra for that shit and I just want the option. Same experience on any system so why not get the the one that opens up the possibilities for you?

I'm hoping the Rock Band guitar works with GH3 (though I won't be that upset if it doesn't).

I don't really need 2 guitars for GH3 except that, supposedly, you can't do online career mode in GH3 which you need to do to unlock some songs.

I somehow glazed right over your post. :)

That's pretty crappy though I'm still going for the RB bundle (since it's the only way to get the instruments before 2008). GH3 is fun, but not enough to make me drool for multiplayer action.

It was a GH3 Saturday! I picked it up in the morning and had a long long jam session with a friend. We beat the game on Medium relatively easily, but there are a few songs that were difficult... I hadnt lost on medium in forever, but Knights of Cydonia put me in my place.

I'm not convinced, though, that the game isnt a little buggy, especially on that song. It felt like if i wasnt doing a hammer on/pull off, it wouldnt give me credit... or maybe it thought i was trying to do one too early and called that a miss... it was very odd to get 3/4 of the way through that song and then not be able to hit anything.

I bought it on the PS2 (game only). The boss battles were kind of dumb, not the greatest addition, IMO. What is also annoying is that in the last boss battle, even after you win, you cant just play the song solo! I really really wanted to be able to rip out that song by myself without having to deal with the battle options, someone fucked that up.

I only went through all the songs once, but i think there will be more favorites in GH3 than in GH2. With GH2, i find myself nowadays only playing... 6 or 7 songs over and over. GH3, right off the bat, had about 10-12 i think i will always want to play in Quick Mode.

The feel of this one is different, with there being a new publisher and all, but it didnt take long to get comfortable. One complaint though... in GH2, the guitar seemed louder. Beast and the Harlot, for example, was a song i had never heard of but loved it in the game. When i went online and downloaded the real one, i noticed right away that the GH2 version sounded so much better do to the pronounced guitar. In GH3, since they are master tracks, the guitar is a little muted, like the real version of BatH...

The timing window for each note is greater than it was in either of the two previous games. HO/PO's are much easier this time too. Sometimes I'll find myself amazed by going on a ridiculous run I could never do in GH2 (and certainly not 1). You'll get it.

Boss battles are pretty dumb. The battle with Lou is HELL on hard, and when I get there on expert (almost there) I'm sure it'll be much worse. There is an easy way to beat him, apparently, by getting the whammy attack and using it on him when he has a long string of green notes. Haven't tested it yet.

As for not having TDWDTG as a playable song, yes, they fucked up. It will be downloadable at some point, although you can't get that with the PS2 version unfortunately. Somebody on the XBL leaderboards came across scores for that, the Slash and Morello songs, three Velvet Revolver songs, and three of some other band I can't remember.

Agreed. There are a couple of shitty ones but for the most part, it's more solid than the second game's list (which I still love). Sucks that you can only do quick play co-op in the 360 version thanks to a patch released on day one. Another huge oversight.

There are some songs with parts where you can't hear the guitar at all. It kind of varies from song-to-song. What you can do is go to the options and turn down the band/sfx.

I agree about the boss battles and about TDWDTG not being available as a solo song. If they think I'm going to pay for that as a solo song though, they are off their rockers. It's a fun song but not enough for me to pay for something that should have been included anyway (do I sound too much like Zeus??? ;) )

There are a bunch of really sweet songs in this game. Knights of Cydonia became a fave of mine immediately. And I love 3's & 7's (though I have that CD so I knew it beforehand). Raining Blood i just kicking my butt though. Not sure why.

I'm going to give this one a lot more playtime for at least the next 15 days. I already paid off Rock Band so I can't wait for the 20th.

Also, BL, what did you have to do to get the secret achievement that you have?

I'm not sure what acheivement that is. I'll look later.
I did get the "Meet Your Maker" one the other day when I apparently beat somebody from Neversoft/Red Octane... 1/3 songs, but it still counts.

Supposedly, I will very shortly be getting a large raise (sounds great, but this just puts me at average for my job) and want to get a new game to celebrate...

I wasn't allowed to get GH3 under threat of being dumped... but that's no longer a threat :P So... should I invest in it, or is this something I should borrow from a friend later?

Is it much worth playing alone? How's the online multiplayer?

Though, I did like the reaction of the two "heroes" in the game after they said "FAGS".

I'm on the last tier on expert in GH3 right now. First one to give me a really hard time was The Metal (Tenacious D).

The Slipknot song (Before I Forget?) was the one to stump me on the next tier, but eventually passed it with strategic pussying out using Star Power.

The last tier is destroying me. One was a cakewalk until the triple notes about 3/4 of the way through. My rock meter dropped like a... rock instantly when I hit that part.

Having a lot of fun with the game, even went back and beat the last songs on expert in GH2. Could never beat any of the last tier, but got to Freebird today (GH3 is SO much harder than GH2). The beginning being so long prevents a man from retaining his sanity after more than a few attempts.

I'm stuck on Cult right now (expert). Sucks, because I really don't like the song at all. I just want to get onto the last tier... although every song on there is just going to kick the shit out of me.

I'm plowing through Hard right now. I don't know that I'll ever be able to play on Expert unless I practice a lot more.

I have a feeling the Slash and Lou boss battles are just going to make angry on Hard though.

I wanted to beat GH2 on Expert before going seriously into GH3.

I'm stuck on the Crazy on You opening in GH2 right now. My weakness is quick jumping back and forth from chords to notes. I can't do it.

PostPosted:Sun Nov 11, 2007 12:57 am
by Lox
My weakness is the back-and-forth "scales" where it's GRYBO all in a row over and over. For some reason, I can't hit those with any precision.

PostPosted:Sun Nov 11, 2007 1:24 pm
by Oracle
My major weakness isn't really fast notes or difficult combinations, but extreme repetitiveness. I just can't do GRYBO or ORYRG or even something like BRG over and over and over and over again. I do good at first, but then it's like my mind just checks out, and I can't keep up.

I can't remember which song it was with the GY -> RB -> GY -> RB -> YO combos (GH3 expert, second last tier), but it was SO FAST and SO REPETITIVE. Has to save star power for it and play like ever second chord to make it through.

Oracle wrote: Has to save star power for it and play like ever second chord to make it through.
See, thats what i do not like about Hard and Expert... i dont want to simply survive a song, only hit 80%, and win. It doesnt feel like like a win to me at 80%. Even when i miss 5 or 6 notes on Medium i get pissed. Some songs on Hard i can get 90%+, but needing to use star power and bullshit like that is dumb, IMO.

I partially agree. But these later songs are SO HARD, that actually making it through some of the parts you don't need star power for is pretty satisfying, too.

Also, playing songs this hard really make you better at the easier song/other difficulties. I was able to go back and beat Guitar Hero 2 on expert because I got better from playing the harder GH3 on expert.

I went back to GH2 for a bit and 4-starred Hangar on Expert... and I had only just barely beaten it ONCE before.

It's strange how the other version issues aren't being talked about either.

xbox 360 version has tons of glitches with the achievements. PS3 version has less online then the wii and there are issues with the display lag on even regular tvs. You have to set the display lag to 31ms. Certain stages, characters can cause lag on the xbox 360 and Ps3 versions making you foul up.

PS2 version avoid at all costs.

"xbox 360 version has tons of glitches with the achievements"

That's not a bad thing. I did the glitch that gave me the "play through the game using only a controller" acheivement... why the fuck would anybody want to waste their time doing that? Not a real flaw.

And the 360 version only has lag if you own a shitty HDTV. If you have a good one, it does not. But even if you do own a shitty one, the option is there to calibrate it. Nitpicking.

Edit: Just re-read that quote about the lag and it seems to be about the PS3 version. But again: calibrate it.

Activision confirmed that this is a known bug (the sound issue for the Wii version) and will be fixed via downloadable update in the future. Otherwise, that would be one MASSIVE recall.

that's strange. When there was a bug in the european super paper mario, they had to replace the entire disc. Has there been updates to any wii games yet?

Maybe Activision knows the ins-and-outs of the Wii's online capabilities better than Nintendo did with Super Paper Mario. Or maybe it was because Paper Mario had no online functionality. Or perhaps the bug in Mario was something unfixable by patch.

Seriously. That is one of the dumbest achievements ever. Why would you waste your time playing the ENTIRE CAREER MODE with a controller? That takes 3 hours.

I'll have to check out this glitch though. :)

Yeah it's easy. You just need to boot up the game with the controller and go into your (finished) career, and then the store. That'll unlock it.
