For those of you who use the virtual console, the game is now available. This game marked the pinnacle of 2D platforming back in the twilight days of the NES by the consensus of many. In addition, this game had extraordinarilly high sales, and has only been surpassed by games with multiple versions (Pokemon, Nintendogs, Sims) or pack in sales (Tetris, Super Mario 1, Super Mario World). After the movie the Wizard, this game was hotter than the car stereo system I had in High School. This game was the total cat's pyjammas. This was the game that people dreamed about playing when they first heard about it.

Anyway, Super Mario 3 available for Nintendo Wii virtual console. It is arguably the best of the series (it had the boot! The boot!) and is loads of fun even today. See you in Giant land! (Which is world 4, for those who forget!)

It's a Seeker pitch, all right!

Already own it for the NES, like anybody with an NES would.

You actually have a working NES?! Give it to me!

SMB3, I can't stop playing this game!

I am actually surprised that I like this one much more than SUper Mario World. I figured I would considering I remember liking it more when I was a kid, but never took that thought to heart. It just has all around much better level design. It's more fun to play, though both games are very good.

Best tunes in the series.

have it with box and instructions for the nes, allstars for the snes, and the GBA version. Thus it was only natural for me to pick up the greatest game of all time when given another format to play it in.

I do think Super Mario Brothers 3 is one of those games that can be argued as timeless, and certainly one of the best games of all time; if not the best game of all time. It is absolutely shocking how well this game has held up over the past 18 years or so. It's really addictive, I have found myself continuously going back to play it again and again.

This game must also be Koji Kondo's best composition.

This is probably one of those games that is a safe Christmas gift to anyone you know who didn't get it.

I also still have a working NES with SMB3. :)

Though the NES is finicky and takes some TLC to get it to play games sometimes. But heck, it did that 2 years after I got it. :)

How is two players on that?

By the way, I have totally fallen in love with this game all over again. I think I missed a lot of fun times not playing this game for the past 15 years.

I would have agreed with you before I played SMB3 again. SMB3 I have been having much more fun with, it seems to have held up a lot better over time. There is more variety in the amount of suits you can have (frog, boot, racoon, fire, tanuki), plus you have an inventory of many items which you pick up from Toad Houses, rather than just one. Overall the level design is MUCH more diverse in Mario 3 from Mario World (though the Star Road levels were all quite good in that game). There are a lot of mini games, including a slots bonus game, a concentration game (that spans the entirety of the game, I actually forget what you win here when the board is complete), and a card collection game.

On level design, the difference in quality is quite evident between the two games, Mario 3 just feels like more thought was put in, as well as more polish.

The only real advantage SMW has over Mario 3 is cosmetic. Even with the extra colour and sound channels, it doesn't particularly make the game more appealing to play. Mario 3's art style is quite good, it has a lot of very nice tunes as well; better than Mario World's.

Mario 3 utilizes the NES hardware to nearly its maximum potential. There are few games which run smoothly and look that well.

Now I am not saying Mario World is a bad game, it is quite a good game and I do enjoy it. What I am saying is that Mario 3 feels like a much stronger game. The levels are more fun, the different settings in each of the Kingdoms (mushroomland, desert, water, Giant, etc...) are more interesting (though I did find the illusionary forest to be interesting). There is not really a lot of stuff that Mario World did that Mario 3 didn't, they just replaced haunted castles with haunted houses, threw in Yoshi and berries, replaced tanuki with a towel, and put in colour blocks. Though there was stuff taken out as well (like a lot of the above mentioned stuff).

Though in the end, play Mario World, and then play Super Mario Brothers 3, once you get to the third Kingdom (Water Kingdom) you'll understand why so many people enjoyed this one more =)

Super Mario World's Star Road and special world levels are quite good though, that was a nice treat, I give the game that =)

I would argue Super Mario Brothers 3 as one of the very best games of all time. I quite enjoy how it has held up.
