super mario galaxy

I had a difficult time tracking this little gem down today. Apparently it didn't hit many stores today, I found it at an HMV. Game looks great, but I've been playing second fiddle as my girlfriend controls mario. Seems like a good time, the two player thing is awesome for letting me help her out and possibly even sabotage her (you can make mario jump as the 2nd player). Nothing really concrete to report except that it may be hard to track down before tomorrow.

We're getting it tomorrow. Though I have been having a blast with an old friend in Super Mario Brothers 3 recently. I suppose Mario Galaxy will be to the 3D series as Mario 3 was to the 2D series... Enchanting, diverse, and revolutionary. It has been getting obscenely high reviews.

So I have been playing for a couple of hours so far. Oh my god, this game is incredible. I haven't had this much fun with a game in a long, LONG time. I have a feeling I am gonna be pulling an all nighter tonight playing this game. Another thing I havent done in a long, long time.

I just got it, I still have my jacket on, it was raining and I stepped in a deep puddle on my way in, my good white pants have red mud on them (this is PEI afterall), but I have Mario Galaxy!

My socks are wet. Now lets see if this game deserves it's Ocarina of Time level critical response!

It does, trust me it does.

All I can say is, OH MY GOD! Yeah, there is going to be no argument on which game is the best on Wii now (there was a lot between Zelda vs. RE4, vs. Metroid). Seriously, this game demolishes them (though I can't speak much on Metroid since I only played a couple hours).

Super Mario Galaxy reminds me of THE reason why I love videogames. I am gettting a sort of first time I played Mario 3/Ocarina of Time/Final Fantasy III/Chrono Trigger vibe. It feels so new on top of it all. It feels so polished and perfect, and SO much fun on top of it all.

I have never played a game like Mario Galaxy before.

That is more or less the exact feeling I am getting, like I said, I haven't had this much sheer FUN with a game in ages.

6:38 am, yeah this game is Satan! I couldn't afford this sleepless night =P

Granted, I did actually try to sleep and got some Phoenix Wright in as well. You just can't sleep when a game that feels as good as Christmas when you're a kid is right there in your videogame system!

Thinking back on last night. My current opinion of the game is that it is the best game I have ever played. It utilizes a similar dialogue system as Final Fantasy 8, in that you just have to approach people and they will talk, you'll be prompted to press A if they have something long to say... This game has a lot of the Star Tribe throughout; this gives it a bit of a Mario RPG vibe. The game also feels a lot like Super Mario Brothers 3 did in that it is exciting to move through from stage to stage. It also has a sort of enchanting epic fantasy feel to it that reminds me of the best times of C.S. Lewis's Cosmic trilogy; if you are one of those people who get a lot out of reading.

The game is a lot of fun to play, everything just works right. If I were to compare the games to the originals, Super Mario 64 would be Super Mario 1, Super Mario Sunshine would be Super Mario 2, and Super Mario Galaxy would be Super Mario 3 with access to all the good things from Super Mario World.

I didn't pull an all nighter on it, but I am up to 29 stars so far. I am tempted to call into work today so I can continue playing, but I don't want to waste my sick pay.

beaten.... and possible SPOILERS... but probably, not.... but just in case...

I beat what I assume was the 2nd last set of levels and unlocked the last set... and then the game says to me "hey, you have enough stars to fight the last boss..... would you like to fight him?" I had an entire set of levels yet to do.... but I went for it anyways. So the number of stars you actually need to fight the last boss is actually pretty low... as I had not yet attempted playing an entire set of levels yet.

Zomg, not Mario game spoilers, you might ruin the game by spoiling the super awesome secrets of depth that Mario games hold :P

the game is so good though.... I would rather not spoil someone else's sense of discovery in the game..... since it's an AWESOME game.

Dude, this game has tons of stuff in it that is surprising and wonderful to discover. It's like someone spoiling sky world for you in Mario Brothers 3 when you're 9; only there's a LOT more in Galaxy.

It has surpassed Ocarina of Time now, it has an average of 97.9% from 48 reviewers. Mario Galaxy, currently, is the highest rated game in history.

Wow...

It IS super fun. I've only played bits and pieces here and there, but once my friend beats it, she's gonna let me play it.

I'm going to try for all stars possible on my first run through the game. I don't need to see the ending until then =)

This game makes me happier than Christmas when I was a kid =P

I think the only thing that could beat the experience at this point is a very well done Skies of Arcadia 2.

got all 120 stars... now playing through the "extra content" that goes with it.

Question, does it pay to finish the game in minimum time? Or is it more rewarding to get as many stars as possible before finishing the game?

in order to get the super fantastic extra at the end (you probably already know what it is, but I still won't spoil it), you have to get 120 stars and then beat the game, so if you've already beaten the game, you just have to beat it again. No secret ending or anything, so if you want to beat it early, the only downside is that you have to beat it again when you get 120 stars.

I'll finish it later then, I heard that it was impossible to get all 120 stars without defeating Bowser once.

I have no idea what the secret is, actually =P

I have guesses, but I don't want comments on those guesses. It will probably be blurted out to me the moment someone with more time finishes it before I do =P

You can only get 104 stars without beating Bowser, getting the 105th after you beat him. I tried to get all 120 before beating him but you can't.
