there is a
review over at 1up that scores it a much lower 7.0. It contains what some might call spoilers, but others may not. Read at your own risk.

Mixed reviews, IGN gave it a 75%, Gamespot gave it a 90%.

Anyone else read Gabe's talk of it today on Penny-Arcade? He seems to treat it pretty fairly... where saying that the biggest complaints-- repetition and the ending, are both caused by reviewers rushing through the game (and not watching the credits).
I think it's definitely worth a rent... but not $60

Gabe's post made me angry, actually. "Shit, I know why you guys write such terrible reviews! It's because you work to deadlines! My experience of trying to beat this single game more quickly than I normally would offers me complete insight into your profession."
Bullshit. Professional reviewers are always working to deadline, and you'd hope that if they were any good they wouldn't let that unduly influence their review.
Reviewing to deadline, I think, has about as much to do with unfavourable impressions of the game, as the PA guys having been paid to advertise and create media for it has to do with their favourable impressions, I would say: hopefully not that much, as they're all professionals. Perhaps some reviewers didn't score it out the nines as they thought, according to their informed opinion, that it was flawed?

It has its shortcomings, many people will attest to that... stupid AI and repetitive tasks, it just seems like it bothered some more than others.
Has anyone actually GOTTEN the game? I made the mistake of thinking I could try to pick it up at Blockbuster and they didn't even have it to begin with... what a lousy fucking selection. That'll teach me to even bother with that again.

Blockbuster. The one near me most definitely has it.

What is PA's involvement with Assassin's Creed? I read a page from them that allude to some sort of involvement, but I didn't know what.

As far as I know they just helped with promotional things like a comic they did for it (not for PA, but for Ubisoft's site)

PA does that a lot, for a lot of games--it's really a chance for Gabe to get something non-PA accomplished and get paid shitloads for it.
I really loved their Civilization comic.

It's a term more thrown around now towards journalists people believe are paid for their good reviews. I was kidding, BTW.

Rev over at Dtoid gave it AC an ultra-low 5.5/10. Not the best feather to be touting around in ones hat when the game is getting 7-9 everywhere else.
