- RUMOR: French Role Playing Game magazine reported a rumor that Square Enix is considering a new installment of Super Mario RPG for NDS, in which Final Fantasy characters will cross-over with Mario characters.

- RUMOR: The magazine also reported rumors that Yasumi Matsuno will cooperate with Nintendo and Square Enix on a new Ogre Battle strategy RPG for Wii; and Camelot will finally work on a Golden Sun sequel for Wii.



What adds weight to the Ogre Battle theory is that Hitoshi Sakimoto has confirmed that he is working on a title with Matsuno and that Matsuno has confirmed that his next project is for the Wii. Even without the existence of the articles the logical titles that Sakimoto and Matusno would be working on would be Ogre Battle or Vagrant Story 2.

Neat. I loved OB for the SNES. Never got into the 64 one.

Ogre Battle 64 was the last game I played for N64, and that was two summers ago. It is very very long, in the region of 60 hours. The plot follows the same formula as Final Fantasy Tactics and has very similar characters. Obviously there are more characters, more towns to visit, and a lot more people to talk to. The game is much less linear than Final Fantasy Tactics as you can take a good path or an evil path, or one somewhere in between. The game has multiple endings and the experience will be different for everyone who plays it unless they are following an FAQ and doing things the way the FAQ says. There are also tons and tons of secrets throughout the world. Also, unlike Final Fantasy Tactics in terms of classes, there is a progression of classes., and classes are linked to allignment (no evil Paladins, no good Ninjas, etc) and there are more of them in OB64 than FFT.

If you follow the path of good, you will get the Revolutionaries from Ogre Battle 1 to join your army, they do play a part in the story regardless. It is overall quite a good game, but it is too complex of a game to jump into without reading up on it for a while, which is why some sites (like IGN) scored it in the 8's rather than the 9's; Gamespot scored it 9.1. My first attempt through I ignored my economy, my allignment, and everything like that and just plowed through the story until I screwed myself, so I ended up starting over again from scratch years later. It is not a game I would recommend to anyone except those who really enjoy conquering a complex title.


On the Mario RPG rumour, I don't really give a **** about the Square characters, I want to see a return of Geno =)

If you loved the original Ogre Battle, you'll pretty much love Ogre Battle 64.
