I work in a business that uses Microsoft stuff pretty much exclusively, and speaking for myself, I always have at least two Office programs open — usually Outlook and Excel, but Word a lot of the time, too. But I could swap both Excel and Word out easily, as could most of my coworkers. Most people don't use the features that set Office products aside from their alternatives. Most people would actually be much better off
not using Office products, because their features actually impede efficient use — I've seen people waste hours trying to get Word documents to look
just right. (For the kind of word processing most office workers do, the only feature keeping Wordpad from being a better choice is table support.)
