they either give it a worth it or not worth it. Let the disagreement begin!

Fuck yes, Kingdom Hearts 2 IS a travesty, and I'm fucking GLAD 1UP has recognized that. The high reviews that game nabbed were HORRIBLY HORRIBLY mistaken, victims as we all were of initial fanboyism and awe.

So far, I rather agree with the list. FFIV is overrated way too much, and FFIX is sorely underrated, so I'm glad they both got their nods.

That list is retarded.

You are retarded.

I didn't agree with some stuff on the list — no version of FFIV being worth it? Madness! — but it was a fun read.

I just love the fact that they cram their justification in a few sentences. Most, i think, are on the mark... others i take issue with, like FF8. The game had its flaws (why level up at all, all you need is to draw a million times the best magics), but the story was damn good.

I also liked Super Mario RPG... great childhood memories from it, much like CT and FF6, so fuck this list!... Amusing, though. ^_^

No, Mr. Parish, justify MY opinion!
Good piece to stir up the fanboy pot.

Underrated agreements: FF2e/4j sucks; just admit it. Also, acknowledging that there are a lot of bad points in FF7, despite the fact that the game is still awesome.

Disagreements: FF9, which I was never attracted to at all. FFX-2, because the story was such shit that it wasn't really worth going through the decent gameplay. KH2 was still a really good game, and actually fixed some of the annoying factors in KH1. No love for Secret of Evermore, either. It's not as good as SoM, but it was still a good game in its own right.

I think most of this list is solely based on gameplay. IOW, if it has shit story and good gameplay, it's a good game, but if it has shit gameplay and good story, it's not a good game. Most people who are playing RPGs at least need to have a good story to carry along. Otherwise, it's not worth playing.

Very good point. As a role playing 'nerd' and avid reader, i value story over almost everything. Most of the RPG experience is slaving through the gameplay to get to the good story!... The few that can do both are truly the phenonemol games.

That's a shot. If you mention Wii sales figures, we need to finish off the bottle.

I just have no idea how anyone can actually seriously give that website any weight, it's just another failed attempt at an IGN/Gamespot clone that likely won't even be around in 1-2 years.

And he won't threaten to sue Sine to shut the Shrine down, that's always a plus.

Essentially, if you disagree with someone, they have a "warped perception of reality". Do I need to be the one to point out the stereotype here?

Option B. This came as a result to your standard nerd rage you have towards me.

Either way, you have a terrible taste in gaming websites. It also doesn't change the fact that 1up.com is another failing IGN clone.

Seems like this is just one of those 'back in my days games were good' thing people like to do every once in a while. I really have a hard time finding anything likeable about Final Fantasy 9.

yes but you have a hard time finding anything likable about anything that isn't Everquest or Fate Stay Queer

I don't particularly have anything to say for a standard top X boring list feature that people write when they've nothing else to write about. Maybe it was trying to pick up cool Japanese points for saying FF2 sucked, or old school points for saying FF3 is good. The FF9 comment was the only one that was of interest because it tends to go against the estabilshed norm, though I can attribute this to trying to get some cool points with the hardcore, whatever that actually means.

Other than that, a laundry list that says some good games were good (or not) and some bad games were bad (or not) is not really worth the time to come up with a meaningful feedback, regardless of the accuracy of the content.

Parish for the most part strikes me as a cynical guy who really shouldn't be playing any games if they bother him so much. The difference between him and I is that I eventually stop playing games that makes me question the future of gaming industry but he does not. I also remember him for reviewing MMZ and complain about how it sucks that nothing is explained when he never finished the game. Perhaps no normal game player should be subjected to playing MMZ's insane difficulty without the aid of an emulator, but he's supposed to do this for a living, too.

Perhaps you haven't seen him gush over games he likes:Anyway, his stances on the individual FF games is consistent, judging from comments he has made in his blog and on Retronauts over the past few years.

It's a multiplatform gaming website that is trying to be popular, whereas IGN is THE multiplatform gaming website that is popular. In addition, just look at the articles and reviews on 1up, they're terrible in comparison to IGN and Gamespot.

Eh, my opinion of IGN has always been low.

I dunno, I have a lot of love for 1UP--and for EGM as well. They actually seem like they CARE about the journalistic integrity of being enthusiast press.
