Assassin's Creed thoughts (spoiler from the first 10 min)

I've been playing quite a bit of this since I got it the other night... and I'm impressed. I think it does some awesome things, but seems to beat them to death in the interest of making the game longer.
I love running around the city on the rooftops/streets, avoiding guards, fighting 10 of them at once... but that's all I'm doing. What they have is gold... but making me do it repetitively ad nausea I can see will already get on my nerves later on. It's made worse that the dialog / view point buildings are all the same! I can't stand that I have to save, wat, 60+ peasants and they have a choice of 5 different things to say to me? The problem is they went to such great lengths to go into detail on everything else that things like lazy dialog in some places is very noticable.
The story itself, or the "twist" that starts 10 minutes into the game, I find rather interesting. It's quite a unique turn on a conventional narrative and I find myself waiting for the next scene where I get to get out of the machine. Reliving history through genetic memories? Very unique. I hope they don't ruin it later, but it looks great. Attention to detail in some places is just amazing. I've noticed it in combat at times... like I'll kill one guy brutally, and one of the other guys still alive will be visibly disgusted or sick from witnessing it and I can kill him easier. Or trying to talk to someone after you saved them and you're straining to hear them over the screams of the dying men you just cut down.
So in short-- this game would be perfect if they etiher a) made it shorter or b) give me more variety. I'd much rather prefer the 2nd.

That's cause there weren't any side quests for him to not bother with or multiplayer to ignore.

Roffle.
Dammit, you kids!
Would like to rent at some point, but I've heard so much about it already that I feel like I've played it.

Sigh. If you're going to invent fake science as a plot device, at least make it more believable. I wouldn't judge the game on it, but it certainly takes effort from me to ignore it.

You don't find it believable? I thought that's always been a debated topic as to how creatures know things that aren't learned. Genetic memory to a degree is certainly believable; to the degree this one talks is kinda stretching it but I don't find it out of the realm of believability.

No, it's not believable at all. The fact that people actually do find it plausible enough think "Well, maybe it could happen" shows how poorly most people understand science.
The only acceptable use of the term "genetic memory" I can find simply reduces to evolution. The way it's used in this game is just a pseudo-science explanation for past life regression.

I think the whole genetic memory plot was totally unnecessary. I love the core gameplay of Assassin's Creed(though it does seem to be getting a bit repetitive), but I hate when it's interrupted by "fast forwarding to a more recent memory," or the cut scenes in the present.
The game was marketed as a medieval Metal Gear/GTA, and it does a decent job at it. The sci-fi aspect just kind of bogs it down.

Ironically, one of the games that Yahtzee created actually has some instances of genetic memory being used--sort of, though it mostly involves a Clone of a person from the past having very fragmented memories of a highly supernatural event, so it's a little different actually...
Anyway, I'll prolly just play Assassin's Creed when somebody I know lets me borrow it. I'm in no hurry to play a game I've heard so much bad about.
Plus, I've got Dragon Warrior Monster: Joker now. Weee.

I'll agree with this definitely-- I'll probably agree more when I finish the game but the Scifi part is just unneeded... why couldn't it just be a medieval assassin's game? There's really nothing lacking in that storyline otherwise... the only reason I can see was to justify the stealth notification system and the extra PoV's and the excuse to throw in those damned bits and bytes at times all over an object.

Oh, hush all of you. Dragon Quest Monster has been one of the better monster-collector franchises of all time (surpassing, in some ways, the addictiveness of Pokemon.)
It's fun!

What...the...fuck??!
Shellie bought me a R4 Revolution for x-mas, and I noticed this game among the ROMs I grabbed. Oh, and Toriyama's art is old and boring. He needs to get a new fucking style!

I'm not so sure it's dragon quest hate as much as "super dragon quest pokemon-like adventure time!" game hate.

I'm not a closet Pokemon fan. I am a Pokemon fan--of the games, at least. The Pokemon games are solid games that have enormous amounts of depth, especially if you get into the Metagame (which I don't really because, frankly, fuck all that math.) but there's like, unlimited amounts of combinations in the games that allow for truly unstoppable teams.
I happen to like games where I can customize shit. So there.

Coming from the man who watches a cartoon called Bleach, them's big words.
Has your mom given you your allowance yet, so you can buy more of them there Japanime's?
And, before you attack One Piece, I watch it because it is youthful and fun and because it reminds of my own childhood days, when cartoons were meant to be fun and not full of semi-homosexual pretty boys with big swords.

There's just so much fail in this post I don't know where to start... first of all I'm pretty sure you're the only one here still in high school and/or living with his parents, and second your first sentence is so idiotic I'm just going to ignore it.
Ahh to be young and totally clueless... just go back to masturbating to your pokemon fanfic hentai of jigglypuff getting railed by pikachu while hoping your mom doesn't come upstairs to ask for your laundry of crusty socks.

Anyway, I've just borrowed a friend's copy of AC and Fea and I are both playing through it now. Initial impressions: fucking beautiful, the first game since Gears to have really stunned me visually; the control scheme takes some getting used to; UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENES AND TUTORIALS, Jesus Christ. I also would have been completely happy with it being set entirely in the past.

I like the futuristic aspect of it. I loves my scifi, and it would be preferential if the next game in the series (because it made enough cheddar to warrant a 2nd) was set in the future. Not being able to clearly see out the windows and hearing only vague aspects of the society really leave it open to being anything. It's nothing to get excited about.... but thinking about a game like assassin's creed set in the future gets me a little excited.

Oh no doubt, an Assassin's Creed set in the future (or present) would be rad. But I share Kupek's suspension of disbelief troubles re. the genetic memory plot device, and have found the (very limited) exposure to the futuristic bits of AC a bit, uh, boring. Does Desmond eventually acquire any of Altair's abilities? Or is the extent of his bits just wandering around that room?
