I've been able to sign in. But it has been wonky, though.

Looks like everything's back now? I've just played 3 rounds of COD4 in a row without a problem... less than usual actually.

Live is STILL having problems... seems every night when it gets real crowded it's almost impossible to get into a CoD4 game. I hear Halo 3 has similar problems. Friend info doesn't load... I'm lucky if everyone's avatar loads. It's ridiculous.

It's not acceptable, but nor is it a reason to not pay for it. They've promised they'll make it up to their gold members and since it's all their new customers that broke their service that they're in danger of losing first I'm sure they'll fix this as fast as possible. Sounds like someone underestimated how many people got Xbox Live for Xmas.

What do you subscribers want as compensation?

I WANT some free points for more Rock Band songs.
We'll probably GET a free 48 hours or 1 month card... if anything.

a free month would make me happy and would be fitting. "We made the service unplayable for over a week, so here's a free month"

Yeah, a free month would please me. Though free points would also work since I'm going to spend them on RB songs. :)

Looks like it's for all Live subscribers too, not just the Gold ones.

Good 'cause I actually had to go to my Media tab for a couple of days to even play games. The other tabs were too busy trying to log in.

I say it's gonna be one of the games on the new Arcade disc that came with the Arcade system. I hope to hell it's Pac-Man but I doubt it, I think that one still makes money for them.

My money's on Boom Boom Rocket. I think that one was Bizzare- or Bungie-developed

I don't know if it'll be a specific game. Could be that they let every live user download one free game of a specific point value, or make a game that is yet to come out, be free. If they make a game that is already out be free, then the people who already own it are fucked.

Fat chance! They're going to start charging for the Toyota Yaris game and then give it to us for free the next day!

After I posted my last reply I starting thinking about that as well. Now I"m starting to think that they won't give one of those already on the disc since there's so many copies out there. But at the same time, they're not going to just let you have whatever you want, there's probably some weird licencing issues going on there. They're probably working out the details with some of the third-parties right now, but it may be the case of one of three games or something OR you might be able to get one game (I HOPE it's E4) and if you already have it, there's an opportunity for another (say, Undertow). If you already own those two, too bad for you. That's likely what it'll be

Has anybody sign on their XBox and find out which games you could get for free? If so, which games are worth it? (I had a lot of fun with Undertow, but nobody's playing it online.)

Carcasonne is a great choice if you didn't pick it up back in December when it was free. I've been playin' that a lot and I really like it. And Pac-Man CE is supposed to be fucking amazing, that's why I'm ankerin' for that disc that came with the Xbox Arcade set.

I really think that the XBLA demos should be a 6 or 24 hour demo as opposed to a time limit in the game. A game like Carcassone you don't really get the game in the time limit they give you. You need to play a few games before you can get into it. You're already downloading the full game when you grab a demo anyways and they have the ability to put the "licencing" limit like they do with the movies, I think it only makes sense to have that with the games as well, at least most of them.

Undertow? Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame!

EDIT

I guess I just mean it's lame because I would have said lame to anything but free rez or free castle crashers.

sweet the game I already paid for a month ago (and is pretty awesome) is free now....greeeeeeat....do I get a damned refund then?

Should have given us the option to pick one.

Actually, that means that the game will have plenty of players. Yay!

The game is actually really cool, but it was missing some good multiplayer action. The game is designed for multiplayer, but hardly anybody bought it. Think of it as a fast-paced capture-the-bases, where the enemies (even the CPU) are aggressive, and the bases are hard to keep a hold of.

Granted, I'd kinda like a refund, but I'm still glad that they picked a game. If they let you choose one, yeah, you can get whatever game you want, but the whole multiplayer audience would be fragmented. It seems to be a huge problem with XBL, since there are so many games.

Undertow is OK. I d'loaded the demo and honestly, I didn't care for it that much. I'll grab it 'cause it's free, but Carcassone was a far better freebie

The demo needed more content, to be honest. Some of the later levels are hard and fast-paced.

Well, i'll be playin' it now, that's for sure. I may use one of my 48-hour cards this weekend, if I do, I'll let you know

Did everyone here get Carcassone when they could?

I actually bought the game later. It's good, but I wish the game lasted longer, and I haven't play multiplayer yet.

Nice. Maybe this freebie has just crashed XBL.

How ironic.

No, but I thought that was quite ironic... the reward for the downtime has caused downtime. I just played some of the campaign and stopped.

I actually love the fact that I can play a game in 5-10 minutes. And you can bet with 3 or more people online it'll take a lot longer

My bad, it was Catan that I bought. I played Carcassone, and it ain't bad, but I probably won't buy it.

I was disappointed in the amount of people who actually showed up for Undertow. I was expecting this huge mass of people, but there was only one game going on with just 3-4 people. And they weren't even playing it on capture mode. WTF is the point of standard deathmatch without capturing bases?!

Maybe there will be a better crowd on the weekend, but I dunno.

But you could have had Carcassone for free in December.......

You're talking about the same online people who have turned Gears into Halo. These people don't care about how the game "should" be played

Yeah, but at least you have a choice to create a new game. If there is only one game in XBL, it doesn't make sense to split the already low counts into two games.
