The saving thing seems to be what I said a while ago about how there needs to be a way where you can attack without knocked out by some weak attack every single time. The move away from combo sounds like a good idea too.

Combos are something that should have been a fad with its birth and death in the Killer Instinct era.

You're bias against Street Fighter games isn't exactly helping you look like one who makes sense here.

I've never been too into fighting games outside of an occassional Dead or Alive bout or SSB. Why does Street Fighter get all this hype now, though? Haven't more technical fighters like Virtua Fighter or, god help me, Tekken made Street Fighter and it's rather lame characters obsolete now? (I've never really liked teh Street Fighter characters. They have ended up being in an awkward stage between being realistic (Virtua Fighter) or extremely cartoonish (Guilty Gear, Bushido Blade, Darkstalkers), and so don't really have a niche to fit in.
Plus, Chun Li has GIGANTIC thighs. Seriously. Holy shit, them things could break into Helms Deep.

SF2 was one of the most popular coin-ops of all time. Also, one of the most influential games of all time. Everybody who plays games knows what it is.
I think you just called Tekken more technical than SF... wow. SF3: 3rd Strike remains one of the deepest fighters out there.

I'm likely wrong on most of what I say--like I said, I don't really play fighting games much. I'm just curious.

Okay, well I think I explained why SF4 coming out is a huge deal in my first line. Same thing as a new Transformers movie feeding on nostalgia, SF4 is sort of a return to SF2 where SF3 was more of a niche game (in North America anyway).

Yeah, okay, this
Objection! circle jerk has gone on long enough. Back to Street Fighter! New character art:

She looks like an SNK character, IMO.
My hopes are not high for SF4. It's early, but it looks more like an EX title than a proper sequel.
Why does Street Fighter get all this hype now, though?
Golly, you are so young.

I'm with andrew. At first I was on the fence with the cool CG movie and the terrible gameplay footage, but this new character just repulses me.

I'm still excited for it dispite that terrible looking woman. Although I really wish they'd include some of the better characters from Third Strike (Alex, Urien, Makoto).

Yun/Yang probably will make the cut, they were the most popular characters in Japan no?

Yun is extremely popular (and cheap). I hate him.

I think they need to take a page from Namco's play book and add Luke Skywalker to SF4.

Speaking of Street Fighter. Super Street Fighter 2 is out on the VC today.

The SF Anniversary Collection makes any other console version of SF2 completely unnecessary.

I have completely turned around on this after seeing it in motion.

It looks so fucking good — so fluid, fast, and vibrant. Those colours! I want to lick those screens!

Pretty, yes, but I believe I played this game 10 years ago. It's like they took the old engine, prettied up the graphics, and added a few new characters, so that it wouldn't look like a total ripoff of SF2T. Hell, I'm sure that the new characters are just old characters in a different skin.

It still looks slower than I'd like. And, like everything with the game, I'll reserve final judgement for when we see all the characters, but it still looks to me like everybody's on roids.

To be honest I've gone from excited to a bit disappointed.
From these videos here.
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3166294
It looks like a Street Fighter EX game, literally, Zangief's 360 pile driver is almost identical to the one in the EX series.
Now the EX games were great Street Fighter games, but they weren't Street Fighter as we know it, they were something a bit different.
I kinda keep hoping some developers will bring 2D into the next gen somehow, Odin Sphere was an example of a beautiful 2D Next-gen game, but I still feel like something more could be done.
This is Street Fighter EX 4, not Street Fighter 4 in my eyes.
If you don't understand my reasoning check out some of the Street Fighter EX 3 videos on youtube.

I'm really starting to feel, after watching many of the gameplay videos from AOU and GDC, that this is not the SF I want. Not a follow-up to the sublimely intricate gorgeousness that is SF3:3rd Strike, but rather a follow up/remake of SF2. I hope I am proven wrong.
