Big RPG announcement coming soon from Nintendo:

Nintendo Power wrote:“Next month’s cover story is an RPG so fantastic, so engrossing, so epic, and so hush-hush that we’d have to erase your memories if we told you what it is. In fact, maybe we already did. Role-playing fans, get ready for a big one.”
The Neogaf posters seem to feel that this is going to be a Final Fantasy title, and a lot are saying FF7 anniversary, using the "erase your memory" part as evidence to support this. One thing that has been made clear is that it is not Sonic Chronicles, as that is on the current cover of Nintendo Power (in which this announcement was made) and was already announced.
I disagree. That would almost more indicate Final Fantasy 8, which is a possibility, but they haven't even officially announced FF6 anniversary edition yet.
Utilizing that same hint, I would rather speculate that the RPG coming will have something to do with Monolithsoft. First of all, Nintendo and Square-Enix have a very good relation nowadays if all of these DS remakes and the moving of DQ9 is any indication. Second, Nintendo owns Monolithsoft now. Third, Fei lacked memory of huge portions of his life; in fact, he really had no clear memory of anything that happened 3 years prior to the game time period. This, to me, would indicate a Xenogears remake.
Whatever the case may be, my strong opinion is that this will be a game by Monolithsoft and I stronly believe that if it is, it will be Xenosomething =)

Didn't they make a DS version of Xenosaga 1 &2? I recall seeing that somewhere. Maybe it was GBA.

Only for Japan, it was released a couple of years ago.

It's Nintendo Power, not exactly a trustworthy source for unbiased information. They could be talking about Blue Dragon 2, or Pokemon RPG, or some other stupid shit.

I am sure Nintendo wouldn't push Blue Dragon 2 as "The Big One" considering there are already much bigger RPGs than that on the way including Dragon Quest 9. There are already plenty of Pokemon RPGs, I don't think yet another one would be considered "so hush-hush that we’d have to erase your memories if we told you what it is."
Since they recently bought the makers of Xenosaga/Xenogears, it would make a lot of sense if it has something to do with that; while Monolithsoft owns the rights to Xenosaga, Square Enix owns the rights to Xenogears, which would not be a problem to work out.

Why does it have to be a remake?
I would agree that this news likely has something to do with Monolithsoft, given Nintendo's (inexplicable, IMO) purchase of same. But a new RPG property would be rad.
And in my wildest dreams: a new Matsuno RPG. Hey, it's possible!

Hahaha, I saw your name in the reply list and somehow figured that is what your comment would be =P
This news is all over videogame forums. I picked it up at Neogaf.

I TOTALLY forgot about that, it could very well be Matsuno's next RPG. The game would certainly fill what the announcement is all about: Matsuno's next project is one that has been kept very "hush-hush", and it would be fairly huge.
For me the major one would be Xenosomething, Earthbound related, or Skies of Arcadia 2. I think the information on Skies 2 would come from Sega though.

It used to be a propagana rag, sure. But it's published by Future Media now, not Nintendo. It's headed by former Gameplayers and PSM editor Chris Slate (who is awesome).
So while I don't read the mag now, I would bet their not nearly as biased as they used to be.

What? They aren't talking about how totally awesome the Virtual Boy or Power Glove are?

Why we never got the Xenosaga 1 & 2 is beyond me.....
I hope to fuck it's a Wii remake of FF6. I would LOVE to see that game look like the FMV from the PSX re-release

F U, I wanna see it on the PS3 with super ridiculous graphics.
Though we might have to settle for Nintendo DS and that N64 demo type graphics we saw years ago

Count on it. They'll do 4, 5, and 6 on DS and then 7 on PS3.

That's the company that founded IGN, if I am not mistaken.

Nintendo developing a title for PS3 is about as likely as Microsoft developing a Halo title for Wii.

Pretty much, yeah. The guy who started Future sold his shares in it and moved to the US to start Imagine. Later, the companies merged.

It's almost for sure coming to the DS which is why I don't think it'll be coming to the consoles. Too bad, a well-done remake (ie. DON'T FUCK WITH IT) would be amazing

I'm REALLY looking forward to FF4 on the DS.

I'd be looking forward to it a bit more if I hadn't replayed it so many times already

I mean if you want a well-done remake you have the GBA versions, those were as polished as you're gonna find for a remake of an 16-bit game.

Aren't the DS ones gonna be in full 3D like FF3 with cut-scenes? The GBA ones were more like ports with some added stuff, weren't they?
I want a real remake, one from the ground up.

Woops =P
I was barely paying attention when I wrote that =P
I'll add my piece though: the game might not even be out until the next generation. What would be ideal would be FF4 and 5 on DS, 6 on Wii or DS, and 7-9 on PS3/later systems.
