December in particular

1.36M Wiis (6.29M for the year, 7.38M lifetime), 1.26M 360s (4.62M,9.15M), and 800k PS3s (2.56M, 3.25M)....that's over 4 million systems in December alone. Fucking crazy. And that's before you even include the 2.47M DSs (8.5M, 17.65M) and PSPs 1.06M (3.82M, 10.47M). 6.5 million systems in one month? Wow. I mean, we all knew it was a video game Christmas (anyone else notice there was NO big toy this Xmas?) but those figures are just staggering. The US is now dwarfing Japan in terms of overall industry size. I hope we get overall Europe stats, I'd love to see what the world market is like (yes, Andrew, I'd like to know what you outbackers and kiwis have been buyin' too :-).
Essentially, it was a pretty solid year for everyone. The Wii has gotten more popular since launch, the 360's insanely good lineup from the end of August on really boosted it (looks like well over 3M of the systems were sold during that time), and even the PS3 sold 800k units in December (nearly 25% of the yearly total)...and there's STILL nothing to play on that system (well, a few solid titles, but it pales in comparison to the Wii and 360).
Not too long ago, there was a lot of talk that the market couldn't handle three separate platforms and only one handheld properly. Not any more.
