Neat, but I knew all of these already (well, except for the one about the military and Polybius). It should be noted, though, that Sony didn't just decide to break off from Nintendo. Nintendo apparently went behind Sony's back and announced at CES that they were working with Phillips for their add on... which eventually became the CDI.

They made 25 million carts for a 15 million userbase. That was the thinking back then. They actually thought it was going to not only sell to everyone who had a system but also nearly double the userbase overnight.
All that money yet they couldn't give the programmer more than 6 weeks to finish the game....morons

I think at the time, they didn't make a "bad game", so they figured that somebody could make whatever they wanted and it would be golden. They also overestimated the power of the movie selling copies.
