Super Smash Brothers Brawl, one week away

It is getting very positive reviews, a perfect 40 in Japan by Famitsu. IGN has scored it a 9.5, and Gamerankings currently has it scored as a 98.3%. It will be interesting to see how this game fares against Mario Galaxy once it is over here in North America, and then in Europe later this year.... much later (poor bastards, but they might get some extra Sega characters if they are doing exclusive characters per region).
I am really looking forward to this game, there seems to be huge amount packed into it.

So, which of you pansies wants to get their candy-asses smashed into oblivion on Sunday night? :-)
We really should update the sticky with everyone's Wii Code so we can actually connect to each other. I'll do mine tonight or tomorrow.
EDIT: FYI, I'm actually not very good at the game, I just find the smack-talking half the fun. I was SOO hoping for voice chat so we could just be ripping into each other as pwning is going on

I haven't actually made a code for Smash Bros itself yet. I've been playing the insane amount of single player stuff all week (up to 132 trophies and 196 stickers now; gotta check how many songs I have; it's fucking hard to last 15 minutes in the Melee mode). I'll get that up on Saturday likely

Just curious...does it bother anyone else that you can't copy your SSBB saved game to an SD card for safe keeping? I read that it has something to do with how they implement the online play.
It makes me nervous because what happens if my Wii has a hardware malfunction and craps out? Does that mean I lose everything I've done in SSBB? Plus, if I wanted to play the game at a friend's house, we have to start from scratch because I can't take my unlocked characters or progress in Subspace Emissary.
It kind of annoys me...how can Nintendo get so much right and constantly screw up anything related to online functionality? Argh!!!

I just did the Target Smash Level 1 in 12.35 seconds, I'd be pissed :-)
Seriously, it would be a ridiculous pain to lose that saved game, especially considering that I've already put in about 20 hours, unlocked 31 characters, over 140 trophies, around 100 songs, well over 200 stickers, most of the Chronology, and have over half of the Challenges wall reveals (about 1/4 completed; fucking thing's insanely huge). It may be only 1/3 done but it's a shitload of time.
I guess they don't want people to be able to hack the saved file to unlock the planet or to cheat online.

Holy crap! I guess I have only scratched the surface then. I am 23% through Subspace Emissary mode on Normal difficulty. I have played a number of single player battles though. I REALLY like how it involves co-operative play.

I have unlocked all the charaters, finished all the events on easy and medium and most on hard, am at about 180 trophies, no clue on stickers, about 185 music tracks, and am probally about 40% done with the wall. It would be a lot to lose, so I also dont really see why they dont let you back it up.

One thing they need to do in ALL games is give you credit for lower levels of difficulty when you beat something on a higher level of difficulty. In games like Gears they do but for Earth Defense Force and Smash Bros they don't. So now I have to go through the Subspace Emissary mode on Easy and Normal to get stuff even though I beat it on Hard? Same with all of the Events (I think I'm done about 25 or so on Hard) and Classic Mode? That's a little ridiculous.
BTW, how the FUCK do you do Target Level 4 in 32 seconds? That's gonna be a hard one
EDIT: guess I'm only missing the one character. I thought there was more than that

Yeah that's bullshit. The GH games don't do that. Thankfully, Rock Band does.

Should be 35 characters in total.

It's is. I'm just missing Dubya. There's 9 per row not 8 like I thought

Oh who gives a shit, it's a fighter in a fighting game. It's like me not wanting to tell you SNK vs Capcom has Violent(Evil) Ken.

SPOILER ALERT STARTING NOW
OK, how the FUCK do you not get an achievement/challenge for beating all of the Events on Hard? I finished both the regular and co-op ones this weekend. Got the challenges for individual events (fucking Lucario at 180% vs Shiek and Ness was IRRITATING as were the last two regular ones) but there's nothing for doing all of them? It ain't exactly easy, it's something you'd figure they'd reward you for, particularly considering how much they reward you for nearly everything else you do in that game, even walking.......
I like the All-Stars trophies, they're pretty neat. That mode on Insane is going to be just that. It's like trying to beat even 1 freakin' alloy on Cruel Brawl. I was actually sent flying off the screen with only 7% damage in that mode, it's nuts.
BTW, anyone been able to replicate that homerun record with Lucas that comes as a sample video with the game? Fucking 2300 ft. I got just over 2000 with Bowser (no challenge for anything over 1500 ft or even for 1500 ft min with everyone BTW) but I just can't do it THAT well.

Subspace Emissary mode, I just finished it. In short without giving away spoilers. This portion of the game is not your standard fighter, it is a platformer/adventure type title that reminds me most of Kirby Superstar. There is a story that goes along with it, and YES the design of the RPG developers can really be felt through this. Essentially the worlds and characters of various games (Kirby, Metroid, Mario, DK, etc...) have all been added together into one big world. The story doesn't follow just one character, it jumps around, and over the course of the game the characters start teaming up with one and other and eventually all the paths lead together into one story for the finale. All of this with music from many of the best composers in the business, quite cool that they had Uematsu on the main theme.
I have played a lot of multiplayer (but not co-op yet), played a bit of online as well. Other than that, there are like 50 other options that I have yet to click on. This game has a mountain of stuff to it.

Question, particularly to those far more experienced with this game than I am: Which characters would you say are the best?
At this point in time I have found that the ones I am best with are Donkey Kong, Snake, Luigi, Meta Knight, Link, and Ike. Sonic and Captain Falcon also seem good, but I have not played enough with those two to make a decision, though, I anticipate that Sonic will be my most played character over the next week or so.

Link is a solid all-round character with good attacks in close and distance but he can't come back from ANYTHING. Meta Knight is pretty good too, he's like Kirby with power. Zelda is shockingly strong, it was because of her that I got the 100-man brawl in under 3:20. ROB is awesome, he was my saviour during the Emissary final boss. Pit is a pretty decent fighter, not much power but he irritates the fuck out of the others and can come back from ANYTHING.
It's a surprisingly well-balanced game, you can learn to use anyone. The only really weak-ass one I found was Olimar. He sucks

I'm having tons of fun with Sonic, he's so fast, no one EVER gets a chance at the super smash except me (since he can get to it in no time and a jump and spin attack is all you need to claim it). I admit, I have not seen half of the super smash attacks yet, but if Sonic's isn't the best it is at least among the very best. Once you get Holy Sonic, no one has a chance (no one is even close to fast enough to avoid it). The only major "problem" with Sonic is that he's a little too crazy, which means I self kill a lot more than I normally would. Though in Brawl, he is certainly a killing machine.
A really good combo is to spin attack into the enemy and follow it up with a spin kick, it does a lot of damage. Playing online, I did a few random games and found I was winning a little more than half, though at the same time I was getting last place on certain levels (smaller levels and Sonic do NOT mix). Again, the major "problem" with Sonic is sometimes things just feel a little out of control.

Sonic is really slippery--and his attacks lack solid punch. I like using him, but I'm not technical enough to take advantage of his combo-tastic skills. I prefer Snake--solid, simple, brawling character with some interesting skills and a mean left hook.
I am practically unbeatable with Snake.

I love to use Ike. His sword gives him decent range and he packs some power in his hits. I love sending guys flying with his normal A-combo. And his smash is pretty good if you can connect the first time.

I don't know if I am the only one who has done this, but I know most of you will do something similar now if you haven't done it already!
I put the game on Mario vs. Sonic, both AI controlled, level 9. Let them fight it out for a stack of 10.....
It was a spectacular battle that stayed relatively close the entire time. It ended with each fighter down to a single life, both heavily damaged, Sonic a little further ahead. Then as a saviour from the heavens, Mario managed to snag a super smash, but Sonic had a bat. Mario got his head smashed out of the arena flying an extreme distance. I don't think it gets closer than that, Sonic won by a hair.
