Looks like Activision is going to spewing these out like they were printing money. Look for a catalogue of Guitar Hero games that rivals DDR or Pokemon to the tune of 6-10 a year. By the end of the year, you will want to take a plastic guitar and jam it into your eardrum.

Meanwhile, Harmonix will try to re-invent the genre, but it will be lost in barrage of GH games. This will be a carpetbombing campaign.

For those that don't understand what that implies, here is the list of DDR games:

Yes there have been a ton of DDR games, and when it comes to the rythem genre, that is a GOOD thing. People get bored playing the same song over and over so they bring out new mixes that have the popular songs from the old mixes as well as new songs to play to keep it fresh. I fail to see how this is a bad thing in any way. More guitar hero games comming out just means that there are going to be more songs to master playing.

The problem with flooding the market with GH games without any real innovation is that it causes the franchise to become stale. Why buy all of those DDRs unless you are obsessed with DDR? The same will happen with GH.

I am kind of excited for this since I'm a huge Metallica fan, but at the same time I am mad that it's GH doing this and not RB. If Neversoft screws this up, I will be angry...and they probably will.

But Kotaku also had a response from Harmonix that this doesn't affect any plans they have with Metallica which makes it sound like Metallica didn't sign an exclusive deal with Activision. My main worry is that Activision is going to start buying up rights to the big name bands and then EA is going to do the same. Then you'll end up with these bands on GH only and these bands on RB only. That, I guarantee, will kill the genre.

as long as rock band ramps up their weekly tuesday releases, I am happy with simply downloading these new songs. If guitar hero can offer nothing more than "We'll add more things to hit on the drums!", what is the point? the two band-sponsored versions of guitar hero will probably offer no more new content than did "rock the 80s".

That's basically my plan right now. Keep getting RB DLC and say "screw off" to GH unless things drastically change.

Sorry, Junior. I'm sure there will be a Fall Out Boy edition soon enough. Maybe a Soulja Boy edition too, if that's your fancy.

I was thinking he would like something more on in line with My Chemical Romance or I Hate Myself.

You all shall die.

Pixies album Doolittle is coming out for download on Rock Band. That makes me happy.

Give the kid some slack. I think you guys are both way off. He's obviously a Madonna fan. He's just waiting for the day he can sing "Vogue" AND do the hand motions in the comfort of his own home.

Not a shock IMO. After hearing about the Aerosmith one, I figured these would be a 2-3 per year occurence on top of the regular GH games released yearly. They can literally do up a song in a matter of days so it's not a huge undertaking for them.

It a way it's not a bad idea. I mean, if you really like the band, and many love Metallica or Aerosmith, you're likely to find you like at least half the songs, which is more than you can say for the regular GH games. And it'll be cheaper than d'loading individual songs since they're running at just over $1 a song on these compilations. And hey, if you don't like the band, you can just ignore these ones. The only thing over and above the regular GH experience is going to be the band history stuff. But fans may still love them. I may be interested in used copies at $35 each or so depending on how good the songs are.

It ain't gonna slow down any innovation they're gonna have with the regular GH series. They know Harmonix is on top of them and they're gonna have to come up with new stuff to keep up. I do think the drums may actually end up being better in GH but not enough to warrant a purchase over the Rock Band ones. And I ain't sure how Konami's gonna make ground against two big franchises with Rock Revolution, they're really gonna have to come up with something good and different.

At the end of the day, I'll probably stick with Rock Band a bit more but I'm certainly not against any quality GH spinoff ones. There's TONS of SHIT available for Rock Band downloads but that's not a bad thing. It appeals to others' tastes (as horrid as it may be). As long as the games maintain the quality in the music-related department (IMO, GH3 and to a smaller degree GH2 became more games than playing music; that's not good), I'm OK with it. It'll just come down to personal choice and even if I don't like it, the more the better
