The Guitar Hero brand seems to be thriving on the Wii, it will be interesting to see how things go when Rock Band (though quite late) is released. Though Wii Fit is certainly going to be Wii's big seller this month. It will be interesting to see how Rock Band does.

Interesting to note, GTA4 didn't sell the Xbox 360 any consoles, it was third among the home consoles selling just 186K. Xbox 360 and Wii have both surpassed 10 million now, but the 360's hardware and software sales seem to be stagnating while the Wii is just really getting started. Especially with Nintendo promising a lot of big surprises at E3 in a month.

The Wii now leads in every country, effectively crushing the Xbox 360's year long head start on the market. Now selling much more hardware and software.

Bah...all of them have sold out. They all make what the average consumer wants and rarely take risks (though Nintendo really did take a huge one with the Wii to begin with). People throw that term around way more than they should.

Well, I think it has more to do with the fact that Sine hates Nintendo and just wants an excuse to justify that hatred. It's kind of funny how Sine is calling Nintendo sellouts when he has been a Nintendo hater for the full 11 years this place has existed.

You're right though, Nintendo is furthest from being sellouts of all the companies: they broke convention, whereas both Microsoft and Sony took a very conservative route by rehashing what worked last generation and giving it a cosmetic facelift. Nintendo has not abandoned any of their fan favourite IPs (Mario, Zelda, Metroid) and have even gone on to re-add some of those which they have abandoned in the past (Kid Icarus will likely be announced next month or a year from now), while at the same time giving us new IPs featuring completely new ways to play games. It was a huge risk, as analysts previously predicted. Nintendo wasn't expected to be successful with this strategy, let alone hugely dominating the market like they are today. That's not selling out, that was Nintendo getting their act together after the Gamecube and kicking the crap out of Sony and Microsoft harder than the analysts thought before.

I for one am extremely happy with the state of things and I can't wait to see what is announced at E3 (likely it will make Sine very very angry, since there will be a lot of nice surprises coming up for the Wii).

Oh, and Wii Fit is a ton of fun! It's two fun things, exercise and gaming, fused together in a great package; I would actually call it currently the best thing to buy on the Wii (followed by Mario Galaxy, Smash Brothers Brawl, and Resident Evil 4 which are also all must haves). I still haven't been able to get my hands on one of my own yet, but I hope to be able to find one within the next month.

I didn't get to play it, but some of my friends got to and really enjoyed it. I want to try it soon.

The N64 and the GC both were decidely last in their respective generations (unless you wanna slip the DC in there), but still, at the time, you gleefully argued that they were DOMINATING in one way or another. We don't get non-fanboy realistic assessments outta you until years after the fact. /shrug

Ultimately, the only thing I was wrong about was whether the FAD/GIMMICK would take off. It did, to a certain extent. I guess there is the proof you can overtly and purposefully manufacture a fad - people are in fact THAT predicable. Oh well, live and learn.

That said this was Sony's generation to lose...Nintendo would not have done nearly as well if Sony hadn't absolutely butchered their own momentum. When people look back on this gen, I have a feeling it'll be remembered more for Sony's mistakes than the easily forgotten gimmicks Nintendo introduced.

Enjoy your 480i rehashed franchises, that you tell yourself feel "fresh and innovative" because you wiggle a wand. I'll play real next gen games on my real next gen TV.

I believe this man deserves a round of applause . My only argument would be that I believe the wiimote has/is changing games, but I definitely still wouldn't say they've improved them.

For the past few gens, Nintendo has always said they weren't going to bother competing with Microsoft/Sony, so what did they do here? They removed themselves from the same market entirely and found a new one. They're not winning against Microsoft/Sony, they just moved into a better market where they're the sole service provider.

The Wiimote has NOT improved videogames, the vast majority of Wii games are total shit and you know it. It's easy to claim victory when you slap together shitty games and sell them to non-gamers who don't know any better. What % of Wii games can be hailed as "playable" to the average user?

While they tried initially (CoD3 anyone?) multi-platform games are now only Xbox / PS3 titles now. Too much effort to downgrade all your graphics and redo the entire control system, neither of which will do any good to their games.

Online play IS a joke. No way to communicate with your friends in game and you can only play WITH your friends. Seriously, how fucking retarded was that, making it impossible in most if not all games to play with random people? It's great for kids and it wouldn't be a bad parental control to have as an option but it cripples online multiplayer for any game released.

And LoL @ Kali, gotta love posts from Seeker SIX YEARS AGO trying to convince everyone Xbox isn't going to last. You might as well take your soap box out to the corner and tell everyone the world's going to end next week and continue doing so every week until the end of time.

Actually most of them aren't really subjective unless you can prove otherwise.

Fact: Majority of Wii's game library is full of shitty bugety/gimmicky games. Take a look at any reviewer website's list-- I tried to look at IGN but it's hard to count them up on there. There are under 10 Wii games with a 9.0+ rating (NO Virtual Console games do NOT count). Go look up your review-website of choice and try to compare the "worth buying" rated titles between Wii and 360; it's not even close.

Fact: Wii's online multiplayer system is by far the worst of the 3 systems. This isn't subjective, it too is fact. No voice chat, no ability to play with random people, etc etc.

I understand your point. Though, as far as this post goes, I am not particularly concerned about it. I am interested in the sales trends within the videogaming industry and discussion on that topic; not whether Kali feels Wiis online is a joke (which it is not a fact, it's Kali's opinion). My point in regards to Kali is that he was wrong on the Wii's success when we were discussing it a while back. All the rest of his post shows to me is that he is uncomfortable with that, I don't really care about his opinions.
