I really hope Spore lives up to the hype.

Spore and Fallout 3 are the two games I am hoping will rekindle my interest in videogames...which has been waning of late. I just don't enjoy them as much any more

This game is looking a lot more interesting, but besides teh Creature Creator, what makes this game any different from Civilization?

It utilizes a lot of the same concepts of Civilization at certain portions of the game, but it is quite a different sort of game. The Wikipedia article gives quite a good outline, as does the official website.
