There's my beloved vs engine. Definitely will have to import this one if Capcom US can't get it over here.

Just goes to show that if you put in stick figures with pretty colors on top of the Vs. engine, people would still buy the game. After all, I haven't seen ANY of those characters (besides Capcom).
Also, it looks like Chun Li is really showing off that new boob job of hers.

Those Tatsunoko look familiar...was it G-Force? Or Gatcha...something? They all dressed up in bird costumes, one chick has a really really short skirt.

Although the non Capcom characters look familiar, I too have no idea who they actually are.

You're have to really know your old school Japanese anime to catch these characters.

I know you know about Evangelion at least, Samurai Pizza Cats was another one I saw when I was alot younger that got a dub, and of course Robotech, though I think Zeus would be a bit more familiar with that one. Also there's Casshan: Robot Hunter, I first saw him on Sci-Fi's Saturday Morning Anime way back in the day, he also had a live action adaptation in Japan a few years ago.
On a side note it looks like it's getting a tour in the US!

It's a shame that there's no such thing as an arcade any more. (Only in select cities nowadays.)

My brother became obsessed with it, and since he had all the video game systems in his room, I had to sit through most of the episodes he had on DVD until he got bored. After awhile, I started paying attention to the show and found, at least the first season, deliciously charming. Captain Glovel (I think that's how you spell it...the Russian with, like, one eye visible) was my favorite character, just 'cause...well, he was Russian and he reminded me of a pirate.
Also, for a children's show, I had to acknowledge that it has a surprisingly harrowing, well-thought out plot, which is funny, because to my understanding, the show itself is actually, what, three seperate animes cut together?
My favorite bit is this part in the final episodes I think, where some Earth city gets nuked. We get a shot of the bomb or missle being dropped, and then we get this three second bit with a UN soldier and some little girl who he is helping out of some rubble.
Soldier: How old are you?
Girl: Two-
Then they are both instantly vaporized by the bomb.
There are all sorts of layers of fucked-up crap in that show, lemme tell ya. After the first season it basically sucks though.

That's why you gotta read the books. 'Cause the show was 3 separate animes hardly linked, the books REALLY flush out the world of Robotech and make it more than just an American Macross with a couple of other shows no one knows. Robotech is so much more than what's in the shows but you gotta read the books to get it.
Otherwise, characters like Lang are nothing and you don't even know who Lazlo Zand is.

Lazlo who?
One of the best characters in Robotech. He was in the second generation and was Lang's apprentice but stayed back on Earth after the SDF 3 took off to the Robotech Masters homeworld (which is only alluded to briefly at the end of the first generation and is what the Sentinels series is all about). There's a whole subplot in the second generation with Dana with Zand which eventually ties into the Sentinels, which is just incredible.
In general, the whole protoculture history and importance/effect on the universe is hardly in the show but is extremely flushed out well in the books. Lang and Zand become huge characters, as does the Regis (and eventually, the Regent). It's what gives the stories and the universe real depth. The Sentinels is awesome and the 18th book (of 21; last chronologically) ties in EVERYTHING amazingly well.
If you watched the Shadow Chronicles movie that came out a year ago, you probably missed a lot of the references as it ties in quite a bit to the Sentinels (it's set just after, if I'm not mistaken); such as who Janice was.
The world of Robotech was really in the books, not the anime. The anime was handicapped by the fact that was a forced marriage of three unrelated animes...and it felt like it. The books tie it all in together

Pretty. Looks like they are going for a slightly slowed down speed, which is good, because I thought MvC2 was too frenzied, anyway. However, I don't recognize any of the characters.
EDIT: BTW, that Scorpion lance is EVIL! Didn't realize that both characters were using it.

Any Ranma? Any Kenshin? Any... any...?
Fuck I'm glad I don't watch anime anymore (although I miss my Cowboy Bebop).
