Yeah, OK, just like they have no plans to actually surpass the 360's userbase

Anybody have sales figures for MGS4? I'm suspecting that while it's high, it's probably not enough to pull PS3 into the mainstream. Eventually, Konami will be making that 360 version of MGS4.

Is that confirmed or are you just assuming? I personally have no interest in the MGS series, but I'd be surprised if this happened seeing as how all previous games stayed exclusive.

There's no way that game will be playable from a DVD.
Anyway, it's 1 million in Europe and about 750K in Japan and US each.

Depends on how much of the BluRay they are using. Besides, they can always use two discs.

MGS 4 would be more like 30 disks

It would be six DLDVD's at the least if the game really exceeded 50GB. But just like you have to do a two minute install on every chapter, you could just switch the disc. I still don't believe ANYTHING was compressed for the game. I'm sure the audio could be compressed somewhat without quality loss. I've also heard here and there that the game was actually closer to 35GB.
Anyway, I don't think it's coming to 360. But way to derail another thread, guys.
Still sticking to the stance that the PS3 will eventually overtake the 360 in units sold (maybe even in NA). I think MS's mistake will be in announcing a new Xbox before 2010. Until then, though, it'll be the best thing going.

Actually, the only one that did that was MGS3. And my guess is that was only because it was near the end of the last generation. MGS1 technically got remade and rereleased on the GC. MGS2 was released on the Xbox later on.

This is a non-news item. The statement "Our plan is not to reduce the price" is different from "Our plans is to not reduce the price."

So, in other words, none of the games stayed exclusive.
It's a cash cow. Konami will port it if it makes money. Whether you call it "remaking it" or "porting it", it's the same damn thing.

Oh, I agree. I don't care how many times a company says something is exclusive. If they think that there is money to be had down the line, they're going to release the game on other systems. Squeenix seems to not do this though. They only rerelease their games from the NES and SNES.

MGS3 was only on PS2 and Nintendo paid for MGS:TS. The only one that was multi was MGS2

The MGS on Gamecube was a remake of a game from a previous generation. There has been no indication that Konami plans to port the game.
As for PS3 sales, it is going to easily over-take the Xbox 360. It has a much larger potential market than the Xbox 360 does; whereas the Xbox is limited to the 4 English countries (UK, US, Canada, and Australia) the PS3 has a market everywhere.
There is no reason for Sony to cut the price of their console right now, it's likely too expensive to do that and I am sure they're fairly conscious about the money they would lose. It would be better for them to wait until it is a little older, maybe another 8 months to a year, then it'll be cheaper to manufacture and there will be more software to earn profit from.

In other words, the 360 is not selling in Japan, or is there some other market you're referring to. You make it sound like console sales in Iran are relevant.
And where are your sales figures? I doubt that the 360 is the worst selling console from the three.

Also, Microsoft is a big racist empire that only markets to white people.

360 is getting whupped in Japan and losing in Europe. It's stronghold is here and the PS3 hasn't really started to catch up. Wait 'til the July NPD figures and they'll release a lot of the overall data. Next Gen usually does a good analysis of sales at the end of every month

Xbox just has a much overall lower potential userbase; I would actually be surprised if it sold more than another 7 million or so in the rest of its lifetime. The PS3 will pick up, you have to remember it is still quite early on in its cycle, about 18-19 months.

The number of people who will even consider buying an Xbox 360 is much lower than those who would consider buying a PS3.

The Xbox brand won't sell in significant numbers anywhere except the US and the UK, and even then mostly only to males. The Playstation brand has potential to sell everywhere.

while i can agree that as a brand name xbox is a lot less prominent internationally than playstation. On the other hand it looks like the 360 is taking much more aggressive strides to try to cater to new audiences. If you look at the library of games available to both consoles you can see that the 360 has a significantly more diverse lineup than the ps3. ps3, as of right now and the upcoming foreseeable holiday season, is a console of first person shooters and racing games. It's as though the xbox and playstation gaming libraries have switched from the last generation. The PS3 is the first person shooter, action game machine that the xbox was the last time around, and the 360 is getting the more well rounded and larger gaming library.

Wait? PS3 has first person shooters? I thought the 360 dominated that category, too.

the 360 is still dominating the the volume of first person shooters, but in terms of exclusives, the ps3 is much more action and racing heavy than the rpgs, simulations, etc.
The Eye of Judgment
Folklore
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Haze
Heavenly Sword
Lair
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire
MotorStorm
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Resistance: Fall of Man
Ridge Racer 7
Time Crisis 4
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
Warhawk
and Unreal Tournament 3 was a timed exclusive
I probably missed a bunch, but I'm just trying to say that the ps3 lineup is beginning to look a lot like the old xbox lineup of entirely missing out on exclusive jrpgs, and just quirky games that are being released on the 360. Beautiful Katamari was on the 360, isn't that weird?

I wouldn't really say that PS3 is niched itself into any one or two categories. After all, PS3 has Little Big Planet and Spore, and stuff like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
It's just that the PS3 doesn't have enough of them, and enough of them being big hits. Going strictly on FPSs, the 360 has Bioshock, Orange Box (PS3 version almost doesn't count), Halo 3, Call of Duty, Gears of War 1/2, Left 4 Dead, etc. PS3 has maybe Resistance 1/2 and Haze, both with mediocre sales. (Haze is getting ported to 360/PC, actually, so it's no longer exclusive.)

The point made about quirky games is extremely valid and is what sucks to PS3 owners (or wanna be owners). Gems like Shadow of the Colossus, Katamari, and Parappa were all over the PS2 since it had the user base, but now since the PS3 doesnt... well, the developers go elsewhere.
Is the PS3 too powerful for its own good that it now only gets blockbuster, expensive to make exclusive games like MGS?
Spore and Little Big World sort of break the reason in this, and luckily the PSP gets the games like Patapon and LocoRoco, but those are Sony creations.

if we're talking about future games too, then the ps3 still has COD4, is getting bioshock, and killzone 2 (the first game was terrible, I have no idea why there is any hype behind this game at all). Uncharted was basically gears of war mashed up with tomb raider with tehre being MUCH more shooting parts than jumping/climbing parts. It was a great game, but it was still basically just a 3rd person shooter with adventure qualities tacked on. It was no prince of persia.
