You guys are slacking... I come here to let YOU all sift through E3 news to see what's worth while and you miss THIS?
http://kotaku.com/5025532/ps3-massive-a ... 56-players
Sparse on the details, but basically a futuristic SOCOM game that promises 256 players in a game. I have to call bullshit on this one-- 256? No console has been able to pull more than 32 at a time, have they? I wouldn't be surprised if that number started to get trimmed a few times before release... the PS3 isn't even designed to handle a lot of draw distance or many objects on the screen so what makes them think they can pull this off when no one else has gotten anywhere close yet? You could be talking an MMO where you're on massive servers but that'd require subscription fees and you wouldn't be able to run too many at once (feasibly for financial reasons) so I'm going to have to wait and see just how they plan to pull this off. Interesting claim nonetheless... but this was Sony's big announcement for E3? pshh
They also announced a new 80gig version of the PS3 and it's been pretty much confirmed that this means they're phasing out all the other versions currently out there and there will be ONLY this version. Oh and this one has no backwards compatibility.
