This could be fun. Winner gets Ish's catalogue of hemaphroditic porn.

Bandai Namco has just released some sort of one-on-one weapon-based fighting game in the vein of Midway's Mace: The Dark Age for N64. Namco has had success in the past with it's "Tekken" series of fighting games for the Playstation. The game is called Soul Calibur 4.

Square-Enix has announced they're going to re-release a game similar to Pokemon that involves time travel. Each of the creators was involved in a popular RPG before. The game is called Chrono Trigger.

(Sorry, this is too easy. But, really, never heard of Dead Rising? Come on. I basically read this board, check gamespite.net, and listen to 1up Yours and I heard about it alot.)

Blizzard plans to release a hack and slash game based on Gauntlet called Diablo 3.

Blizzard releases a rich game in the same vein as Everquest called World of Warcraft. Apparently players will have to pay a monthly fee to play as a character from the popular Warcraft series. No one will pay a subscription for that; I give it 6 months

I think the only guys who didn't think World of Warcraft will succeed were the hardcore MMORPG guys who are some of the most disconnected fans that ever existed, and maybe Brad McQuaid. Compared to them, Seeker would be a pretty reasonable guy.

Here's one for Sine's best thread of the year:

It's not a game, but game related, and something much much larger:
Sine wrote this in regards to GC, the largest videogames expo in the history of the Western World (and second largest only to TGS):

There were a ton of people who didn't think Warcrack would survive. It was a huge risk

Ok, this is a little off topic, but...

DUDES!!!

You thought Xbox360 was awesome, CHECK THIS SHIT OUT! Xbox "Live" is an online multiplayer gaming and digital media delivery service created and operated by Microsoft Corporation.

Supposedly in "Live" you will be able to play with your friends online while they are still at their house and you at yours! WHAT?!?!?!!? Yeah, and possibly even people from other countries...HELLO Canada and Venus.

Also, you will be able to keep track of your buddies via "Gamertag." It's kinda like a screenname. A Gamertag must be unique and can be up to 15 characters in length so MULLY here I come!

Due to such successes as FFX and the amazing FFX-2, Square-Enix goes against conventional naming standards and releases a new game for the DS titled FF4!! I'm excited to see the confused consumer reactions and get my hands (and stylus) on this bad boy while i patiently wait for FFX-3.

Konami Japan released a game where you play as a decrepit old man adding some very interesting difficulty to the stealth game genre. It is somewhat similar to the Tom Clancy Splinter Cell titles though it makes you feel like someone who watches the nightly news on PBS. Obviously Konami is trying to appeal to an aging gamer. The title of the game is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This game has republican propaganda written all over it.

That WAS a pretty ignorant (and egotistical) comment Sine... although Seek's post that launched this thread was much worse :P

There's nothing wrong with that post considering you took that completely out of the context of the post. If you read, it is referring to the site or editors at 1up.com not being worth my time. What I posted from Sine is, however, completely within context.

My point was that E3 has been a household name. EVERYTHING AND EVERYBODY knows about it. If I hadn't heard of some German expo and I'd heard of E3, then obviously it was not going to be the "largest videogames expo in the history of the Western World". Or to put it another way:

Electronic Entertainment Expo wins!
Not even fucking close!
Still dominates

So, yeah, proof positive that the "largest videogames expo in the history of the Western World" is in fact, E3. It will continue to be the "largest videogames expo in the history of the Western World" until every gaming mag, website, Penny Arcade, and G4 starts covering GCDC just like they do with E3.

When you search for E3 on the google, how many of those results are actually in reference to the Electronic Entertainment Expo? Put in GC vs E3, and Games Convention vs Electronic Entertainment Expo and tell me the results.

Either way, yes, GC is bigger than E3 ever was (by far). In the last 3 years, GC has had a higher attendance than E3 did, combined, in its 13 year history. The only larger event is TGS, have you not heard of that one either?

Here's one:

Bethesda Games, makers of the Elder Scrolls Morrowind, a huge PC hit, are taking a break from their fantasy series to create a new franchise. Using a very unique post-apocalyptic setting, they've created a shooter like which PC fans have never seen before. The game is Fallout 3.

Actually, according to the 1up Yours podcast I'm listening to right now, E3 had 1,000 attendees this year. Yes, one thousand; one zero zero zero.

Is that 1000 journalists, or 1000 is the combined number of developers, investors and journalists on the show floor?

People coming to consume E3, as opposed to the people making up E3. So, journalists. Consumers and retail weren't allowed in.

It's a good all-around podcast, but they have a good run-down of what went on, and what needs to change if E3 is going to remain relevant. It's the one from 7/25: http://www.1up.com/do/minisite?cId=3149993

(I'm mostly running experiments right now, so I'm listening to 1up Yours and Retronauts all day.)

The IGN and Gamespot staff were present for E3. So at least some journalists attended. They reported similarly, that E3 was a relatively desolate event this year. The event has essentially been on its deathbed since 2006.

In comparison to E3 having 1000 people attending: GC had 12,300 representatives from over 500 companies last year. 185,000 attending total.
