I hope this actually happens. I don't have a DS, and I don't think I would want the new one - but it would drive the price of the Lite down. The current price of $120 is reasonable, but it's still enough right now to keep me from getting one.

NOt sure if it was going on down there but up here, EB had a sale on all new DSs for $100 this past weekend. They didn't advertise it or anything they just did it. There's so many good games for the system now it's worth it especially for $30 less (it's $130 up here still)

I speculated about this from the moment that news came around about simultaneous press events in Japan and North America for October 2nd and 3rd for the purpose of announcing "new products and services".

Yeah, I'm just hoping for a DS Lite price drop so I can finally get one of those!

I am wondering now if this potentially new one will have an upgraded CPU?

I'm not so sure this DS upgrade will happen in the near future. Look at the sales of the DS across the world, the thing is still selling like mad. It's regained its weekly lead in Japan and is consistently pushing 500k+ monthly here (not sure about Europe). They don't even really have an incentive to drop the price which is why I was surprised to see it on sale this weekend at EB (unadvertised I might add).
I have no doubt they have a re-design all ready to go but it would be a silly business decision to introduce it now. They may as well keep reaping the increased profits until it dies off.
I say next summer at the absolute earliest. I could be wrong but if it was selling this well during the summer season think of what it'll do during the holiday season.

Europe is by far the top market for DS currently.
