Anybody playing? I just got it and wouldn't mind seeing some of you chaps in there.

I'm on the Kislev server on Destruction. It's a lowish population server and there's not much action going on in tier 3/4 atm.

Obviously there is some terminology I must learn, as I don't know what you just said.

Seems like the anti-WOW, as far as faction balance goes. I wish there were more Orc classes!
When or if I get my new PC, I am in!

Well in WoW Orcs are like human wannabes that are green and ugly, so no one cares for them. In WAR, the Orcs are definitely not human wannabes. The flavor on the Orc lore is probably the best I've seen in any RPG. Sometimes your good old fashion war machine of doom is much better than some stupid 'oh noes we were abused by demons!' thing that Blizzard is fond of.

I've got it! So where are you guys, exactly? Order on Ulthuan for bovine and Oracle, Chaos on the same server for louis, Chaos on Kislev for Don - did I get all those right?

Yes! I also have a destruction character on Monolith. No offence to order, but it is full of lame wussies. The only way I could reconcile my feelings about order was by making a female character, because at least they look badass.

Playing on an Oceanic server! As soon as I saw the option that was it. Too many terrible experiences playing on US servers in WOW, I'm afraid
.
Anyway, the game is rad! Its PVP virtues have not been exaggerated. Level one and I was in a scenario, wailing ass.

I wouldn't mind trying it out..is there a trial download or anything? or would I have to buy the game to try it?

Unfortunately, they are not offering free trials yet. There are still "bugs" and "balancing" that need to be worked out. They already have like 750,000 active accounts. I think that is more than they were actually expecting. I would be surprised to see a free trial system before Q2 2009.
But in the mean time you can check out my guild web site at
http://www.arkofheresy.com/ and our guild alliance site at
http://www.legion-undivided.com/. My friend put the Legion Undivided site together in like two days. He's gotten pretty good and using Joomla to put things together quickly, heh.

More thoughts on the game!
1. It's ugly. Blizzard has the best artists in the business, granted, but LOTRO looks much nicer and I'd assume that Turbine have access to the same resources that Mythic do. Mythic's artists just suck.
2. It runs terribly. I get stuttering at way less than full resolution on my lovely new PC. I have to force a bunch of options in my video card's control panel that should be sorted out in-game to make the game look even half as good as WOW, which is four fucking years old! Bullshit.
Lucky for Mythic it's so goddamned fun.

I wish I could find the web site that shows comparisons between WoW and WAR artwork. And not just WAR art work...apparently WoW developers were using general Warhammer (from the books and tabletop games) art work as a basis for their concept art. I wish I could find the page with all this information on it. If I find it, I will post it. But of course, without the links who is to believe me?

I noticed how if you compare say WoW to EQ2, people will tell you graphics don't make the game, but when comparing say, WoW to WAR, apparently the graphics DOES make the game.
PostPosted:Mon Oct 20, 2008 4:58 pm
by Louis
For me, graphics don't necessarily make the game. I was a long time player of EQ and the graphics were terribly dated a few years into the game. I'm not a typical "all around" gamer. I never really played games regularly until the "online" era. What draws me in is the "hook" factor. Kind of like "crack." Hence, how EQ was often referred to as "EverCrack." Games keep my playing by introducing things that make me want to play on a regular basis. Such as items, quests, levels, etc.
I guess the original game that hooked me though was Diablo II. Anyone else kill Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal thousands of times just to get that one uber drop?

Graphics don't make the game, but WAR is pretty damn ugly, and I'm playing the game on max settings/details. -_-

I thought it's supposed to have a rugged look with the Greenskins, but I have no explanation to why everyone else looks the way they do.

Yeah, I play it on max settings too. The Inevitable City is also inevitably bugged. For some reason the higher resolution textures don't always load like they are supposed to. This is the only zone where I have this problem.

I just had to come in and mention that LOTRO looks absolutely stunning most of the time in Ultra High (and even Very High) settings and it's over a year old now

Pfft, you're still on topic. LotR went with a good look, based off the popularity of the movies.

I believe. Original warcraft (orcs vs humans) was taking some blatant strides to be like warhammer. Though they were able to take their story in a different direction, those roots remain.

I saw on a forum somewhere that said Warcraft orcs were orginally borrowed from Warhammer, and then during around War3 become retroconned into Klingons that are green, and I think that's a pretty good assessment.

So I jumped onto Uthuan today and it told me that I should probably use a free character transfer to get my character the fuck off that server. It has sunk in numbers and is apparently a Low Population server. Yeahyeahyeah, it's the busy season for playing console games so nobody's playing this. However, Oracle and Louis are on that server. Are you guys going to ditch it or what is up?

I went to Red Eye Mountain over a week ago. Although I haven't really been playing anymore. I'm kind of on a LotRO kick lately.

I shoulda sent you a message. I keep forgetting WAR has in game mail, I'm used to DAOC (fuck me we asked for that forever, even before WoW).

and now I've jumped there too. I had to change my name from bovine to fazuzzu, so don't be too shocked at the scary character that sent you a friend request.
