Over the weekend, I ended up ordering an 80GB PS3 (the non-backwards compatible version since I have an almost untouched slim PS2).
I couldn't resist the deal. You got $150 off if you opened a Sony Visa card and though I almost never open new cards to get deals, this was too sweet. Then I had $80 of DiscoverCard cashback bonus that converted into $100 towards Sony online. The end result - I paid $150 + tax for a PS3.
I knew I'd get one eventually, and at $150 + tax, I figured I might as well now. So once I get my HDTV, I can say hello to Blu-ray and now I can play some stuff I've missed like MGS4 and Drake's.
As soon as I get it, I'll post my PSN name.

$150 sounds about right for a PS3. If I could get one i would too

Sweet deal, and unfortunate typo in your subject line
For $150 I'd jump on it if only for the blu-ray... maybe

For MGS4 as well....that's almost worth the $150 on its own. It's that damned good

greatest 20 hour cutscene money can buy.

Fuck that. I'm enjoying Ninja Gaiden 2. Sweet sweet ultraviolence and chicks with big fat titties.

I'm pretty sure that (even without having played NG2) that MGS4 has waywaywaywayway longer and more frequent cutscenes. It is hardly a game.

Stop dissing MGS4, you!
I'm not yet a PS3 owner. Valkyria Chronicles and LBP look to be the games that will clinch it for me. (Please, Fea!)

My friend bought a PS3 just for MGS4, and he didn't even know it was out (he has no games on the system).

I tried to play MGS2 and I didn't really care for it... so really, MGS4 does nothing for me (it's extra long cut scenes aside)

No, man, it has the best gameplay of any MGS to date. Sure it has 8 hours of cutscenes but that's a good thing considering how awesome they are.

yes, there was great gameplay in the microscopic sections of the game that you got to play.

Except for that bit where you had to disguise yourself and tail that dude around town. Chapter 2, I think. That part blew.

Well, I had about 23 hours of gametime total. Eliminate the 8 hours of cutscenes and you still have 15 hours of gametime. 2/3rds ain't "microscopic" it's just much less than most games. I personally like the cutscenes (the story is what the games are really about IMO) and with the ability to pause them, I never ever said "will this fucking cutscene ever end?"

A friend of mine played through it 3 times in a row because he enjoyed it that much. If I get even 1/2 the pleasure from it, I figure it's worth it.

If you're a big fan of the first 3 (and thought #2 wasn't quite as good storywise) then you're gonna adore this one. Best gameplay in the series and a SHITLOAD of references and tie-ins of loose plot points from every "official" Metal Gear before it, including the MSX ones (not the GBC or PSP ones). I was amazed at how they tied everything together so well. Amazing ending to the series plot-wise. You can really tell that this game was made by people who are fans of and absolutely love the series
