Recommend some PC games!

So I just recently came into some money and built myself a gaming PC. Hooray!

I am however at something of a loss as to what to play. What have I missed out on in the... uh, four or five (?!) years it's been since I had a decent PC?

I'm going to give Sins of a Solar Empire, Crysis, and Company of Heroes a whirl. I am a sucker for just about every genre. PC dudes, enlighten me!

I am not sure if your tastes will be in line with mine. I am having tons of fun with spore. I also really like Civ 4 + expansions. I'm not really a big PC type gamer though.

LOTRO! ;) Shellie, Sine and I play that one pretty consistently (well, Shellie and I do, I dunno if Sine's given up) and the first expansion, Mines of Moria is out next month.

But if MMO isn't what you're looking for then the 3 games you have down there are great starting points. I've been meaning to play Sins again, especially with their first expansion next month too.

If you haven't gotten the Orange Box (Team Fortress 2, Portal, Half Life 2) for Xbox or PC yet I'd recommend it for PC. Bigger and better matches in TF2 online, I still start that one up randomly just to play a few rounds.

You have to play the Half-Life 2 and subsequent episodes, along with Portal.

Soon you can get Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2, woot!

SOON? What the FUCK are you smocking? You'll be extremely lucky if Starcraft 2 comes out Fall '09 and Diablo 3 Fall '10. Blizz is WELL known for their slow development cycles, and you KNOW it's bad when not even EBGames dares to put down an estimated release date for either game.

get steam. I play company of heroes skirmishes and dawn of war (warhammer 40k) skirmishes pretty frequently. Don, Oracle, and I play Warhammer online (all on different servers though), there's the battlefield series. World in Conflict is a pretty game, but I can't seem to find any substance in it..... I also have sins of a solar empire, but the graphics are so poor that I am instantly turned off by it (sorry, I know that there's a good game in there somewhere).

I don't know if any of you are aware of this, but if you launch games through steam, you can use the steam interface in the game (pressing shift + tab brings up a bevy of community options). This goes for non-steam as well as all steam games that are launched through this service.

I've got Steam! And Jesus Christ, it's like XBLA on ultra-crack. I could spend millions!

I plan to acquire COH, but I'd forgotten about Warhammer 40K. I'll add it to the list. Sins is mighty ugly, I will admit.

Fea wants to play LOTRO! I'm not that interested in it (sounds carebear-y!), but I am keen on Warhammer Online. I'll let you guys know once I've picked it up.

I do have The Orange Box on the 360, but I've been instructed by one of my friends that I am to pick up TF2 at least on the PC.

Also, Spore! Yep, that's on the list.

I'd love to play some CoH / Warhammer 40k games with you guys.

I don't have the expansion of CoH, but I have Dawn of War except for the last one.

I played a game of Sins for half the afternoon... I don't find it ugly. Crank up the graphics if you think it's that crude.

When's Dawn of War 2 due out again?

I couldn't find you either, I think the community names and account names are different or something. When I searched "bovineuniversity" it said I could not add myself, but when I searched fazuzzu I could find nothing. Also, I searched you and could also find nothing. Wah. :'(

Search for tessian@raptorealm.com . Looks like it won't search for nicknames, so that's my account name.

As mentioned, The Orange Box. Must have. But, even more so, Bioshock. You must play Bioshock at all costs.

Others? Mass Effect, Devil May Cry 4, LOTRO, of course. (BTW, Tess, I'm still playing, but not as much. Got too many 360 games I'm playing right now. I did start a captain, though.) And, no, it's not carebear-y. It's the fucking One Ring. If you don't like hobbits, then don't play a hobbit.

Haven't played them, but I hear Assassin's Creed and the Sam & Max series is good. Also, Crysis, if you have a supercomputer. Gears of War. Stay away from Age of Conan.

But seriously, join us on LOTRO in the Windfola server. We've got some low level characters, and we could get a good sized group together to get through some of the quests. (Actually got my sister playing it, too.)

Any of the Total War games are good. Especially the Rome Total War games (available on Steam). Of course the Orange Box. It seems like every month or so they add some crazy game to it for free.

Cyrsis is awesome of course but I'm stuck at a certain point in the game and I can't seem to get passed that.

Fallout 3 is coming! Thank your government for removing the rampant drug use out of it! According to Kotaku it went gold and will be out on the 31st possibly.

Assassin's Creed is a pretty game but very basic gameplay-wise. It's OK but something a bit further down the line on any platform IMO

I'm downloading LOTRO as I type. Fea will probably be on later tonight.

I've bought TF2, but probably won't get a chance to play it until tomorrow. Stupid download caps! I'm halfway through my month's bandwidth and only a quarter of the way through the month.

I'm excited for Fallout 3, but apparently it won't be moddable in the same way that Oblivion was at release. That's a bit disappointing.

You know Sine, anyone who pays attention around here would know Andrew has an Xbox 360, so pointing out games that are already available (and much better) on the 360 is pointless and makes you look silly ;)

Andrew-- let us know your char name once you've downloaded and created one. I can give you ours but between Me, Sine, and Shellie we have 8 characters we could possibly be on :P That being said I'm either Tessian, Zhan, or Tessadir. Also don't forget that if you like it Shellie can give you a referral that'll get you the game for $10/month... although they're also offering that now if you pre-order Mines of Moria digitally.

Right now, Warhammer Online is consuming most of my game time. The game is varied with the RvR (Realm vs Realm; PvP) system and the PvE portion keeps you questing. The quests are intelligently designed to lead you from one area to the next. Some people may think its too linear, but it keeps me from having to check web sites for the next area I should be heading to.

Lord of the Rings Online is also a very good game. I have several friends that play and have been taking some time on the side with it the past week or so. It is definitely a quest driven MMO. It does, however, have a higher learning curve than some of the other popular MMOs. This is actually one of the strong points. It keeps the WoW kiddies playing WoW...

Well, I read forums pretty regularly, but seldom post unless its a topic my insight (no pun intended; possible inside joke!) may contribute. I'll just add this one to my list...well, honestly I only read my LotRO and WAR guild forums anymore.

This is an ancient forum group. We've been around since IGN and videogamespot were brand new websites, and Chrono Trigger was the hot new RPG to talk about.

I won't lie, we have a very dark history... Most of which can be found in Ruminations.

Why can't we just erase that forum? Lots of stuff I'd like to forget that's for sure.
