I looked into embedding youtube videos. The version of phpbb we're using doesnt support it without a mod.

For all that is good and holy in this world, please do NOT allow YouTube embedding. It'll make sifting through the threads even that much longer. It can't be that freakin' hard to click on a link instead of having the video embedded. It's freakin' irritating constantly scrolling past those in online articles, it would be a nightmare here

Zeus we've had this discussion here before and you're still absolutely retarded over it. Nobody's going to spam the shit out of a thread by posting a ton of embedded videos. You'd probably have the option to turn it off in your preferences anyway. Stop being such an old man!

Take a look at how many Youtube links we have in nearly every thread. There's TONS of them. Expand the link to a video and it'll take up 10x as much room...that's before you even start talking about quotes *shudders*

If I can turn it off, I'm fine with that. That way it's not forced and people who want it can have it. I just want the link. It already takes much more time than it used to to sift through these threads, I just don't want it to take even longer. Gotta get SOME work done during the day :-)

You're wrong. I count hardly any of our threads with youtube videos in them. It also won't increase the size of threads by 10x; that's just complete BS.

Besides, it is MUCH less of a hassle to hit the play button then to be forwarded to a totally different site.

I agree that embedding would be nice. There are hardly any posts with Youtube videos. We don't have to worry about people spamming, so I think it'd be nice. That's only if it's doable, of course.

Discussing the finer points of YouTube embedding is moot, since the version of phpBB we're using doesn't support it, and I sympathize with Sine if he doesn't want to suffer through an upgrade. We'd get some nice features, for sure (I could turn off signatures), but upgrades rarely go smoothly.

Ive been trying to get him to move to SMFwhich is a much more powerful board, but he's too lazy to recode the styles over to a new board.

There's also a new version of this board out.

We CAN do embedding with this version, it would just require a mod..which from what I read, most forums require since the code isn't in default BBCode.

Also no one commented on the awesome that I posted?

Embedding would be nice but I don't see it being worth the trouble. That being said you've got issues if that's how you decide to propose to your girl... for christ's sake go outside or at least SAY IT TO HER.
