I find this to be pretty amusing:

I'm currently not even playing WAR or WoW right now, but I always thought Jeff Kaplan was just at the right place at the right time and took credit for something any armchair game designer could've pulled off with Blizzard's resources behind him.

Of course there's your usual stuff about 'we totally don't fear competition, just brings more people into the genre' deal. I think I saw that from when UO was the first MMORPG, to EQ, and now WoW is saying the same thing, and it's interesting to note that everyone who's ever said this is taking a decline in their own game.

All MMOs die. It's a fact of life.

Asheron's Call is still active. That's been, what, 9 years now? It's outlived its own sequel (thanks to Microsoft...)

I think it'd be more correct to say fade into irrelevence rather than die. You can certainly have a very good game with its niche audience, but it's just not relevent to the world.
