I am interested to know which teams people use for most of the game.
I'm going with: Viktor, Flik, and Humphrey in the front row; Cleo, the hero, and Kwanda in the back.

I think my party is usually hero, Kasumi, Cleo, Viktor, Flik, and someone else.

Uh... it's been too long. I can't remember a quarter of S1's cast.
From what I DO recall, having McDohl's trainer (Kai?) in the party made for an excellent combo attack. Pesmerga was probably also good since you didn't get him until the end of the game. Same with Crowley. Flik and Viktor, obviously.
If you're planning on playing through the series, you can skip 4 and Tactics.

Kai and McDohl had a combo attack that does like their damage combined to all enemies. But then you can just use Hell too.

Hmmmm, perhaps I should switch Kwanda for Kai.

Don, you're right. It's very useful when you first get him, but I don't recall ever having him in my final party. I also just remembered I used Eileen (Lepant's wife) a lot. She had one of the highest magic stats.

Mirich was a great character that was very unsung. Great attack power and great casting levels made him a natural caster/healer. Hero/Kai of course, and then Viktor and Flik. My last party member was always something of a throwup on whomever I felt like using that playthrough. There were plenty of other good characters to use.

Once McDohl gets Hell there's really no point to the combo attack anymore since you might as well use that on every random encounter you run into, and even before that his level 2 gets strong enough to simply wipe out random enemies in one shot if you're just leveling. Kai doesn't have a very high attack power and using up one of McDohl's terms from casting isn't really worth it for bosses, and as mentioned you pretty much never have problem with random encounters once McDohl is high enough.
