Guitar Hero / Rockband

No, I don't want to debate the two-- I'm looking for people's opinion on the games in general. I've resisted buying either of the games so far, and I thought with the addition of extra controllers jacking up the price there'd be no way I'd sink $190 on a game, but a friend brought over GH3 last night and I started getting into it.

I never heard any body here really talk about GH:World Tour or Rockband2 once they came out, is anyone even playing them? Are they worth the $190 + $60 per other game, or were they fun but not THAT fun? I really don't want to pay that kind of money, especially a month before Christmas, but god damnit I'm jonesin' now.

I'm picking up RB2 sometime in December. I will not be buying a GH game again for a while based on GH3 and what I've heard about GH:WT so far. I've heard that GH:WT is better than GH3 but not as good as RB1. It's not bad, of course, but it's not as good as it could be. I love RB1 and I am really excited to grab RB2.

In terms of the instruments, I love the Fender Stratocaster from RB, but I've heard that the GH:WT guitar is very nice. There are currently some issues with the GH:WT drums, but you get the full 6-inputs with those where RB only has the 5 (though you can use either drumset with either game).

If you enjoy GH3, then you'll love either of the others. You get so much gameplay out of them and with DLC, you have almost infinite replayability as new songs come out. I highly recommend picking up either of them. You won't regret the purchase even with the price.

Honestly, both are fun, but I don't get the fun of playing it beyond like, medium difficulty. It is just too much random crap to be enjoyable. FWIW, I felt the same about DDR. They're all enjoyable until you have to be nuts to get better.

rock band 2 isn't a particularly big step above the original, but it is certainly a fully featured gamer with LOTS of downloadable content. I've had a ton of fun with it and it's a great game to play multiplayer (obviously). You do the whole campaign through both single and multi the same way this time around (going to gigs, getting a certain amount of fans or a bus or whatever to open up new locations). You can throw in live friends into your band (play with me!) to fully four playerize your experience. Wait, what? you want a couple of video reviews from gametrailers? Okay, you twisted my arm, here they are.

Guitar Hero World Tour Review

Rock Band 2 Review

Bovine likes rock band. Bovine loves harmonix.

I haven't touched RB in weeks. Too many other games going on right now.

Lox agrees with Bovine. Lox will join Bovine in some RB2 goodness soon, hopefully.

Tessian is a weak consumer whore. Tessian picked up RH:WT with the guitar for $100. Tessian also scored Rockband 1 used for $20 cause they didn't take down a sale sign from last week.

Friend came over tonight with her guitar and we played both for a bit. Both are really good, I just still suck a bit and need to improve.

Can you play online with friends in RB1 too? If so we need to play.

that would be the greatest combination of awesome and terrible if we were able to get four of us together to play some international rockband.

I feel bad about being excited at the possibility.

You can do band quickplay, not world tour in RB1.

Best combo is the Rock Band 2 set and GH:WT with guitar if you have nothing. As much as I love the RB guitar the GH one is still better.

But the RB song selection overall is better IMO. And it still plays like a music simulator as opposed to a music game which is where GH went ever since Neversoft took over.

The Rock Band guitar blows. I loved the Les Paul from GH3 but somebody smashed mine. I've gotta get a new one some day.

I'll do anything but sing, so let me know if you people (what do you mean, "you people?") want to arrange something.

I like the Strat over the Les Paul though I don't mind the LP at all. Haven't tried the new Strat or the GH:WT guitar though.

Ill do drums or guitar, but I don't really like to sing.

And I'm down to rock out any weeknight or weekend.

I don't like the drums. I don't have the coordination for it.

I usually play guitar/bass.

I have to be properly intoxicated to sing.

I haven't really played much lately. I think I played three songs last Friday on the guitar.

we should do what we're all best at. I can do drums on hard, and I'm not so good at guitar, so I can barely do expert, mostly stick with hard. I'm a horrible singer..... but due to the nature of RB2 and how your character can be anything in the band, we can just keep switching around every 3 or so songs to make us all suffer. So, I can do drums or guitar, maybe we should all just rotate everthing every 3 songs or something?!

I can play if someone suggests a date in advance (3 days at least please, november is a busy time for this university student).

I do pretty good on drums on Easy...but the jump to Medium kills me!! I can play guitar very well on Medium, but again, the jump to hard there is too much. I just cant do that Orange button.

I think I just dont play enough.

Sine will want to play...he thinks he can sing. :)

I enjoy playing other peoples Rock Band/GH, but I wouldn't pay for it myself... I feel the experience is not of any greater value to me than a lot of other casual games I've played.

How about Friday night?

I'm gonna try and get Rock Band 2 this weekend (I love EB and their trade-in deals...). Gears 2 will probably run my life all weekend (we ALL have to do Horde Mode) but I'll probably be sick of it and may want to take a break on Sunday with some RB (I'm assuming we're all talking about #2 here).

I can do guitar/bass on expert/hard (I'm a little rusty so I can't do expert for all songs), drums I can probably handle medium, but I suck at singing. I'll do it for my part in a rotation.

Friday's fine if you're going late. Might be a problem that I don't get home until 11pm EST.

I can do Hard/Expert on anything but vocals.

Well Shellie and I found out this evening that you can only play songs that everyone's unlocked... so, yeah, I've got some work to do x_x

And some buying. I bought the Nirvana and two NIN packs. Good stuff. Also have some Police, Oasis, Offspring (not my choice), Radiohead, and a few others. I need to grab some Who at some point.
