My girlfriend wants one of those newfangled rhythm games. She is split on Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero World tour. She wants to get it for her Wii.

Best Buy has plenty of Rock Band SE's in stock with all of the crap, though I've heard it's song selection is semi-lacking. But if she can get the entire kit for $106, then she can buy Rock Band 2 by itself and get all the songs from that as well.

Guitar Hero recently added their who band set to the World Tour stuff but 1) no one has them in stock 2) apparently their are flaws with the drum kit. This is the same with Rock Band 2's complete set as well at least for the Wii.

What I suggested to her was to buy World Tour with just the guitar and get another guitar so at least two people can play at a time. I've played Guitar Hero 2 and 3 and liked their out-of-the-box song selections.

Another suggestion I had was for her to purchase Rock Band SE and then pick up the added track volumes for $30 a piece or just puck up Rock Band 2 for $50 for the Wii along with the Rock Band SE.

I know this is going to come down on how much does she want to end up spending in the long run but, which have you all used and which do you prefer? Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero World Tour? Or should she wait until Guitar Hero/Activision/EA fix the drum kit?

UPDATE

So I just realized she only has two wiimotes so Rock Band is probably out of the question. Also I keep hearing issues regarding all aspects of the World Tour hardware, like Guitars giving out after a day and such.

So, my question is which Wii Guitar is the most durable?

tell her to get it for the 360. Also tell her to get a 360 so she can play rock band 1&2 (that she just bought for the 360) that she just got for he 360.

Based on gameplay and quality alone, I would recommend RB. If she's not much of a gamer, she might not notice it. Personally, I don't plan on touching a GH game again for a LONG time.

She's not going to get a 360.

I hear ya, only it would be an extra $80 on top of the $110 she would have to spend because she would have to get two more wiimotes.

She's not much of a gamer and I think she'd like the Guitar Hero stuff more, but it looks like the Les Paul controller is the best one to get for any of the systems.

Yeah, Activision is going down the predictable path of trying to milk the idea as much as possible using as little capital as they can, and are definately going for the maximum audience. Granted, Rock Band 2 only has some interface changes from one, but at least they are allowing you to play all of the songs from RB1 and the downloadables for free.

Not to mention that they aren't making new games that only cater to the pop rock/metal fans. (I'm looking at you, GH: Aerosmith and Metallica.)

Yeah, I'm with Lox on this one. RB is much more of a music simulator than GH now. GH is more of a game now. The music selection in each is a matter of personal taste so take a look at the track lists and see which you prefer.

Also, I think it's only the guitars on the Wii that require the Wiimotes so you should be OK with just 2. But you'll have to check on that

From what I've been reading you need 4 wiimotes for all four components to work on either system.

According to these sources:

http://www.rockband.com/support#overview9

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 014AAlSN12

It sounds like RB2 requires only a single Wiimote to navigate menus. The rest of the controllers are stand-alone.

From what I've read, GH:WT requires a Wiimote per instrument.

Gack! lox beat me to it. Apparently the visuals are just a prerendered cinema and there is no character customization at all. I now direct you to my previous recommendation of the purchase of a 360.

On my way to pick up Rock Band SE with her now. Thanks for all your help guys. I think I'm going to pick up Guitar Hero for myself for the PS3.
