For those who are into VC/Wiiware and like Castlevania: Dracula's Curse is one of those games that are arguably the best in the series. Personally my favourite.

Castlevania 3 is an excellent game. I'd love to see a remake.

Best of the series? I don't know about that. It's definitely the best of the NES ones, no doubt. But Sympony, Aria of Sorrow, and Rondo of Blood are kick-ass games.

Casltevania III was the first game I owned. (Well, shared with my brother.) It was a gift from my uncle - we actually had an NES for a month or so before we actually got a game.

I remember when me and my brother got to the swamp stage, we thought Trevor falling through the quicksand to his death was hilarious.

I'll never forget trying to get through the 12th or 13th stage, the one with the falling blocks. Man that was HARD back then, almost as hard as beating Tyson. May look easy now but when you're 12 without much experience, that shit was hard

I was a beast with old Grant.

Grant all the way. He was the most fun because I always felt like I was getting away with something when I would climb over enemies or skip an area by climbing over a wall. I'm tempted to say he was "game breaking," but I think they actually designed for him. It would seem like Alucard would give you more power, but he really didn't - his flight was limited by hearts, and his bat form wasn't agile.

I might have gotten through the fallen block stage once or twice, but I normally took the other route. I always went up the clock tower to get Grant, then went Alucard's route but rejected him. I think Sypha's route was harder.

Did anyone actually use Sypha? I'd sometimes get her for novelty, but I thought she was clearly inferior to Grant and Alucard. So damn hard to use.

Man. I want to play CV3.

I always used Sypha. She is far superior to Grant or Alucard in the Dracula battle. I didn't really have much problem getting through the rest of the game with Trevor, so I used her for the last stage.

Huh. I always used Trevor for the Dracula battle. Axes were invaluable.

I guess a big reason I used Grant was climbing on the walls was so damn fun.

I don't remember it very well, but I believe Sypha's ice attack was great for Dracula.

Haven't played theg ame in years. Whenever I feel like Castlevania, I either play Symphony of the Night or Simon's Quest (I don't know why, but I love the game).

Alucard's bat form made a lot of the game much easier, including the aforementioned falling blocks level. Other than that I think I used Grant the most

Call me when they make a beautiful fucking masterpiece of a game like C:SotN again.

Aria of Sorrow was just as good as Symphony IMO. I haven't tried the three DS ones yet

Dawn of Sorrow is excellent and the most similar to SotN. I only played about an hour of Portrait and Ecclesia.

I am working on Ecclesia now, and it is HARD. A lot of the bosses kick my ass repeatedly.

Yes, Eccelesia was rather difficult but that has more to do with the fact that you're playing as a caster and she's gimp with melee weapons throughout the entire game and everything takes an extremely long time to die.

As soon as you get the pew pew lazers from the green skeletons the game becomes much easier.

See, I just don't get the same effect I got from C:SotN. The graphics were superb and employed techniques not seen in a 2D game before. And the soundtrack is still one of my favorites.

Now, they are reduced to releasing games only on portable, and basically trying to get a game as good as C:SotN out the door again, only to fall just short of their goal. I'll admit that they are getting really good at the gameplay aspect, which is the real core of the game, but I want to be impressed by wandering around underground caverns just to see the parallax backgrounds and listening to the music.

I really think they need to start releasing XBL games. Yeah, they might not make it as a full-blown $50 game, but XBL is a new niche, and they can use the full power of the 360 to showcase what they can do on HD. (Provided the stupid space limitations for XBL.)

The graphics were only a jump 'cause you went from the SNES to the PSX. Aria's graphics are nearly as nice and it was a SNES-level game. The GBA was basically a portable SNES and the screen resolution was nothing like Symphony's. So your graphics argument is like comparing apples to oranges.

But I've always been about gameplay and not graphics and Aria's gameplay was just as good if not better than Symphony's. It took them three tries on the GBA to get to that point (Circle was great and Harmony was the worst of the Metroidvanias) but it freakin' ruled. Everything about it was great: the different characters, the little storyline cutscenes, the areas to explore, the bosses, many of the regular enemies. It was the first one since Symphony that just did everything right.

I won't disagree on the music. Aria actually had only OK music, not even in the same league as Symphony. But you're talking about one of the best soundtracks in game history, top 5 at least. There's very few soundtracks in any game that'll compare to Symphony's
