eRepublik - fairly interesting game

Anyway, it is a game which is based on a fictional world resembling our own. Users can make their lives, part of the workforce in one of the many industries, join the military, own a business, enter politics, lead organizations and newspapers, etc... National leaders can become polticians and be elected to seats in their nation's republic; they can also become a national leader and handle the national resources, taxes, wars, etc...
At first you really just have to worry about what the advisor says - buy food (eaten automatically) find and work a job, and train in military exercises.
You expend a bit of health for each activity (work, combat, training); better food increases/recovers your health more per day. You can also purchase houses; the better your home, the more health recovered each day.
Now there is something fairly interesting going on right now. The west (specificly the US, Canada, Germany, and Scandinavian coutries) are fighting against continental Europe and its Islamic nation allies (Iran, Turkey, Indonesia, etc...). We were betrayed by eUK earlier who took over some of North America, including ePEI where I am located. The largest battle in the war, and in the history of the game was for eNova Scotia which was lost to the enemy Alliance. The latest major battle was against Washington DC which was conquered. The eUS capital has been relocated to Florida.
Being a member of eUK now, I am also part of the ~30% of eUK's population who is opposes this participation with continental Europe and the Islamic countries. Though the majority of the population didn't want to join the smaller Western powers and be slaughtered on the front lines; with others feeling this is the lesser of two evils (Europe and the Islamic nations). Join up and see what it is like, it starts off a bit slow.

So, basically, every crazy-ass wild-eyed thing the conservatives have been saying about a Muslim immigrant takeover of continental Europe has come to pass in this fantasy realm. And then some, "some" being defined as a battle in which Muslim forces captured Washington. That's lovely. I can't wait for Hannity to pick up the story.

Actually, the Portugese are in charge of Washington DC at the moment. I don't think they'll hold it for very long though. North America is under siege on both fronts though from the Eurasian continent. It's essentially turned into a West continent vs. Main continent war. At least under the UK government, we no longer have to worry about the French anymore (Quebec is under the control of France). Canada has been the chief area of the warzone because they have been the biggest US supporter. Even though most of the country is now in European hands, the government is not turning like the UK government did so easily when they were threatened. Ontario and British Columbia are the two major Canadian strongholds.
Essentially, the world really hates the US, except Canada, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Germany; if this game is accurate as to national sentiments =P

Romania has joined forces with us; on the Internet they are numerous =P
there you have it: our allies are -
Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, Spain, Poland, Croatia, and Romania.
Canada had been completely conquered, but a spark of revolution was had here in Prince Edward Island. We drove out the enemy, we then easily took back Newfoundland and New Brunswick. So, yeah, Charlottetown is the current Canadian capital; God save us! =P
We're currently pushing into the North West Territories because of their heavy resources; then we'll take the fight to Nova Scotia. If we are succcessful in driving the foreigners from the continent, we're going to first join with Sweden and Norway in carving up the whole of the UK between us.

Is there a feature where a bunch of arrogant youths stage a military coup and overthrow you, forcing you to exile to your allies who treat you like an unwanted great aunt and stick you on an island "retreat" which is really more like a comfy prison and you can only watch helplessly as everything you built collapses over a few short decades thanks to reckless idealism and incompetance?

Well, a lot of North Americans have moved to South America and Greece =P
Canada regained Nova Scotia completing the liberation of the Atlantic Provinces. We may have some trouble though. The US government has surrendered to the invaders and are now a tributary to France. Many Americans have come North to Canada where we have vowed to fight to a man; others have gone into countries of other allies who continue to fight. The eUS is very divided right now.

I don't know if I'd like to laugh or cry at that, I'll get back to you.

I'm picturing Sean Hannity picking this story up in order to continue stoking the fears of Eurocentrists and American conservatives worried about a secret Muslim takeover of France via Algerian immigrants. It's not a happy picture.

Well, there is an absolutely HUGE amount of irony there considering the US often accused France of surrendering too often.
The Muslim and European countries support France, but mostly because they all hate Americans.
On the real world side - I think the idea of some Muslim conspiracy to conquer the world seems racist - just because the Christians tried to do it doesn't mean the other religions have the same goals.

Adding a greater insult and injury to the existing injury, the surrender of the US has been refused; and essentially the invaders want to wipe them off the map. So the country is in trouble now as their government has lost face with much of the population; and absolutely nothing has been gained.
On the European front, we have been invading and winning some battles in Europe.
By the way, in unrelated movie news, there is a remake of Red Dawn on the way.

Ironically, this only actually makes our nuclear deterrent argument more credible to many.

Kali hit level 6, and as I promised; he gets 50% of the bonus (which I get when my invitee reaches level 6).
So anyway, we have the enemy forces slightly on the run; in Canada, with 7 provinces back in our hands, we are taking the fight into the US and helping restore some territory there. Oddly enough, our peaceful little Canada has become one of the most militaristic nations in the game. We're like Prussia, taking on and defeating much more populous nations =)
Rght now I am saving up for a level 5 house (depending on the price, I haven't seen any on the market in a while; the highest is a level 2; and while good I know I will only just replace it. I am playing the waiting game for now. I can easily afford a level 2 house, two of them actually. So I think a level 3 is well within question, and possibly a 4 or 5.

Oh, so that's what that gold was.
Anyway, I moved to Alberta so I could get my wellness up and fight...free hint for newbies: don't fight if you don't have a hospital available locally.

Signed up and I'm in Virginia, USA. My first goal is to move to Florida so I can be near a hospital. Thanks kali haha.
Neat little game. In an hour or so I can resign from my first job and try to find one that has a little more job advancement opportunities now that my skill level is one in manufacturing. Gotta wait another hour to resign, though.
Edit: There appears to be a couple newbie welcoming things for being in the eUSA, but I think I'm going to go it on my own to get a feel for things. I hate begging strangers for help when starting new games.
Edit 2: Damn, I have to wait until the second of September to resign.

Yeah, don't worry too much, just up your skill. No matter what don't end the day with a wellness below 40 or I will cost you in food. Battles can only be fought at a skill level of 40 or higher, and the hospital can only be used to regain health after a battle.

Alright, so I have a large enough amount of gold pooled now (32.5) and I am considering starting a business in eRepublik, considering there is a lot of war going on weapons seems to be the logical choice. Though there is also food, and everyone needs food.
Either way, I think we can start to have the tOWS presence felt in the Canadian and US markets.

And thus, we see why the military-industrial complex does such brisk business in real life as well.

Well yeah =)
Only the military industry in eRepublik isn't guaranteed sales by taking tax dollars and then charging what they feel like. We have to sell for low prices to remain competetive.

Finally got a decent skill level two job and should be able to move to a Q5 Hospital in the next couple days. I'll hit six tomorrow, too.

Don't hesitate to join us up in Alberta which has a Q5 hospital, we're a very active location and we're fighting for the same cause; liberating every single bit of our continent and the European lands of our alliance.
Plus we can use this place to begin corporate expansion =)

The game is definitely a lot more enjoyable once you can fight and you're near a hospital. If there wasn't the promise of a deeper game I wouldn't have played once I realized that it's like 10 days of doing nothing but eating, training, and working.

We're doing well. France and the UK have been smashed and lie in ruin now. France has dropped from 1st in all areas to 9th in GDP and 10th in population. An interesting note, Canada's GDP per capita is way in first.

Looks like the eUSA won its war. It was kind of fun being part of the liberating force in Washington D.C. When I fought we had it down to over negative a million... with hours to spare. I'm pretty sure I saw that right - it was pretty early haha.
We somehow gut an influx of like four thousand citizens in the past couple weeks.
