ODST, PSOne Classics on PSN, Dead Space

Halo 3: ODST... anybody else getting it? I hadn't planned on it, but Blockbuster has a pretty sweet preorder deal in giving you a month of game rentals for $10 instead of $30.
The quality of the PSOne releases on PSN continues to improve since FF7 was released in June. In the past two weeks they've released Silent Hill, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain (HAS NOT AGED WELL!), and FF:Tactics. The PSP version of Tactics is still greatly superior, but if you don't have a PSP or want to play the game on both your PSP and PS3 it's only $10. Which PSOne titles would you like to see on PSN?
Bovine, have you heard of this game called Dead Space? It's pretty rad. You might like it. I just picked it up again after a long hiatus and I'm really into it. Trying to do the whole game with just the plasma cutter and it's easy enough so far. Great, great atmosphere. I really wish I had a decent sound system for this one because I'm playing it through my horrible TV speakers.

Legacy of Kain ha, now if they bring out Soul Reaver, I'll nab that.
At least the load times are non-existant.

ODST likely not. I'm not really into Halo 3 online. Same with CoD but I think the Modern Warfare 2 single player is going to be much better. So I'll be getting that one instead. Although if you guys are ever up for some Gears 2 online, let me know...
Have they done Alundra on PSN? That would be a great title to grab for $10. Same with the Lunars if they ever release those. Same with Elemental Gearbolt, which is a game most missed out on, but you'd need a gun for that one. They should also be re-releasing Suikoden 2 at some point I would imagine. With all the sequels and the extreme rarity of the physical copy, that should be a no-brainer. Personally, I have all of the PSX games I want, they're easily accessible, and they're playable on my PS3, so I probably won't be getting any of them (before you say "Zeus, you won't buy any downloadable game anyways", I do own 4 of them).
The one downloadable game I am lookin' forward to is Castlevania Adventure: Rebirth. I'd love to see what they do with that one. I played the original like crazy on my GB back in the day. I'm strongly debating Contra: Rebirth as well. It's supposed to be Contra 3 quality and very similar in gameplay.
Are they still trying to sell Dead Space for $40? If they don't drop it soon, it should be a "door crasher" on Boxing Day for $10.
BTW, to you Fallout 3 fans in Canada, for now (likely will change in the next couple of days), EB gives $40 trade-in credit for the original Fallout 3. The Game of the Year Edition with all 5 expansions is going for $60. So you can upgrade for $20 which is a great price for all those expansions on a disc.

I'm semi-interested in Halo: ODST, but I have to wait and see how the single player / coop campaign is, because that's really what I'd be playing it for. Otherwise it's just another halo multiplayer game.
Question on Deadspace-- how much of that game is "OOGY BOOGY monster popped out!" moments? I've heard nothing but good things about the game, but I don't like games that constantly try to scare you. I'll use Doom (the remake) as the prime example-- I couldn't play too far into that game cause I got sick of it constantly trying to scare me in every room.

I have preordered this halo game, but on amazon because I was extra-lazy, so it won't be coming until about a week after launch.
Also, Blotus you are amazing for playing that game and I am happy you are enjoying it.
Tessian, the game is a joy to play, the game is mostly about tension and not cheap scares. It has great gameplay and that's why I loved it.

a week after launch? I'm getting it delivered by Amazon on the release date for FREE (relatively). Prime membership rocks. Good thing too cause I had to order a new headset as well... stupid cats chewed through my mic last night :\

There's a bit too much of it at the beginning, but they tend to taper it down by replacing it with "Oh, fuck, no ammo on this gun, walking backwards all the time".
Overall, it is an enjoyable game and worth playing, even if the story is borrowed at bit too much from System Shock 2.

So who's playing ODST tonight? (around 7pm EDT?)

Not until around 11EST. Sunday is my only day off so maybe we could get some Firefight on the go if we can find another person.

You suck... by 11est I'm done for the night. Def hit me up on Sunday for coop or Firefight.

Well that was nice... apparently the price of ODST dropped to $50 so Amazon refunded me the difference. I had a $10 off coupon too so now it only cost me $40.
I think the campaign alone is worth it so far... the teammate AI is being frustratingly stupid at times so it'd be a lot funner with a friend *hint hint*. The multiplayer I haven't tried yet but I know disc 2 gives you all the map packs and such from Halo 3.

Well I enjoyed the hell out of the campaign. Can't wait to do some Firefight on Sunday, so Bovine you'd better be there too!

How long did the campaign last? Is it 4-player co-op as well?
And Firefight is Halo's Horde mode? Did take them long to copy that, huh? Is it as good as Horde?

I've heard it's about six hours (I wasn't keeping track) and it can be played co-op. It was my favorite of the Halo campaigns so far for many reasons: there are no annoying Library-esque levels involving backtracking, there's no Flood, and the story didn't lose me an hour into the game.
I haven't played Firefight yet since you can only play it with people on your friends list. You could play it alone, but the waves don't scale according to how many players are in the game so... yeah.

My preorder was with Persona for the PSP and for some reason they were unable to ship it for 2-4 weeks.
So I cancelled it and will pick the game up tonight, so I am indeed onboard for sunday night firefighting. Can we be team "burning rangers"?

Blotus and I played a few rounds of Firefight... it's quite different from Horde mode.
Firefight is really one continuous battle where you get zero time inbetween waves, and only 2 chances to get a 10 second break. It's 3 rounds, each with... 6 or so waves. Sometimes new waves start before you've fully finished off the previous one. Your base has a few health packs (they respawn at the end of each round) and some basic ammo.
Each round they throw another modifier to the mob... we only played normal so it wasn't too bad but it gets a lot worse. Round 1: Mobs will evade grenades. Round 2: Mobs LOVE to throw grenades (seriously, like 4 at once sometimes). Round 3: Only melee attacks will recharge your stamina shield.
First game we made it half way through the 2nd round, 2nd game we made it to the last wave and got annihilated.
Good stuff, can't wait to play more. A shame you can only play with friends, but even just 2 of us was a blast.

I'm playing ODST at the moment. I'm about half-way through the campaign and it's been the best of any Halo so far for me. If Reach is this good I will be ecstatic.

I would be down for some firefight tonight. Let me know if you're available!

Ok, i've ranted about how much i love DL content but ran into my first downloadable dilema last night. I played the DL'ed demo of Dissidia (lots of fun for FF fans) and decided i would get it, but the full version isnt avaiable to DL. If i had a Go i would be pretty miffed. I dont, but am still unhappy that i have to find time to go to a store which may or may not have it in stock. Living in the city without a car makes every errand a 2 hour ordeal, so i seriously doubt i'll be heading to the local Gamestop (dont even know where that is) anytime soon.
Sony needs to get more of their PSP games on their network if they expect this to be the future of purchasing.

Two things: Amazon, and I bet Sony and the publishers would love to make all of their game downloadable. The problem is their relationship with the retailers.

Square Enix is the real problem here. Sony has said it's up to the publishers to release their games on PSN, and SE's American end is not doing it's part. So far, only the two Sony-published PS1 titles (FF7&FFT) are up on PSN, while in Japan Xenogears, FF8, Vagrant Story and more are available (looking earlier today, there are 54 PS1 RPGs in the Japanese PS Store).
Note that the PSPGo still hasn't been released in Japan so perhaps that's why SE hasn't released their PSP catalogue on PSN yet.

For the record, I was talking about new games that are also out in retail.

Dissidia's on the PSN store now for $40. Like Tom Petty says, the waiting is the hardest part.

Dissidia has actually dropped in price new. You may be able to get it cheaper from Amazon than buying it on the PSN. Haven't checked yet but I know it's $35 Cdn new, just saw it today
